Honestly, I start a lot of fights in here but bringing up the 2004 World Series and calling the Cards and Yankees "slumping" is just comical. I mean wow, 3 years later and changing division winners and division series winners into slumping.
Yikes.
I love you all.

I mean wow, 3 years later and changing division winners and division series winners into slumping. Yikes. I love you all. Been saying it since the days it was happening... it's ok though, just because it's true doesn't discount that you still have a ring over there. Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen all combining for ONE base hit all series long is not a slumping team? The cards couldn't hit, nor could the Yankees in the last three games. It happens... it's not like the Cards haven't won a WS since and you guys have yet to win a playoff game since so I mean that kinda says something too. Bottom line all I was getting at was: 96 Yankees > 04 Red Sox

Marlins acquired RHP Armando Benitez from the Giants for RHP Randy Messenger.
The Marlins get the closer they first targeted over the winter. They offered Yusmeiro Petit to the Giants then, and after being turned down, they ended up moving Petit to Arizona for Jorge Julio. The Marlins aren't necessarily helping themselves here. Benitez was 9-for-11 in save chances, and he'll continue to get the job done most of the time as long as he gets to enter with no one on base. Still, his stuff isn't quite what it once was and odds are that his knee will be cause for at least one DL stint before the end of the season. The Marlins might have been just as well off had they gone forward with Kevin Gregg and Henry Owens. Those two now figure to occupy setup roles.

Double post omgs
I looked this up for you....
Cards WS games in 2004
Game 1 11 hits Game 2 5 hits Game 3 4 hits At Home Game 4 4 hits At Home
Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen combine for 6 hits... I stand corrected by myself.
Edmonds, 1 hit... Pujols 5 coming in the last 2 games, Reggie Sanders no hits, Rolen no hits.
Just making a point, the Cards were slumping as a team and in the last 4 games of the ALCS the Yankees didn't hit crapafter putting up double figures in runs in game 3.... sounds like a slump to me. Don't get too upset at me for pointing this out because I'm still bitter about it.

I'm like an Ant??? I don't get it.
I guess I suck because you don't like what I have to say and probably can't think of anything to say except stupid insults or acting as if you can't remember me from previous days ago. Get over it... 1927 Yankees > Boston in general

Jesus Christ, go away. Why are you even arguing about this? Are you upset that the Yankees are doing poorly? Bringing up stuff that Lorenzo wouldnt even bring up might be the saddest thing on this site.
Just stop with the history lessons. Jesus christ, what a whiny baby you are. THE YANKEES ARENT EVEN LOSING TONIGHT AND YOU ARE STILL WHINING.
In game 3 of the ALCS, how many runs did the slumping Yankos get?
totally slumping

No you make a good point though in sarcasim... you are damn right the Sox were playing better ball at that point in time.
But hey, easy path to the title with aquired players such as Ortiz, Manny, Pedro, Schilling, Lowe, Damon etc.... and then never winning a playoff game since your WS when all the Yankee fans were saying stuff like.... win 3 more in 4 years like we did.... I'd probably be bitter too.
But here's the difference, I have no problem admiting I'm bitter.

Not that I care to get involved in this ridiculous 3-year old debate, but the monumental collapse was a combination of the Red Sox playing with nothing to lose and the Yankees going into a slump and losing momentum.
I've thought all along that Torre should have been fired after the '04 season...I know your manager doesn't go out there and pitch/ hit/ field, but Torre has to take a majority of the responsibility for not firing the team up and lighting a fire under their asses after the 2nd consecutive loss.

That was 3 years ago, you are making it out to be like it was 86 years ago.
Are you really throwing at me the bought players, please refer to how the Red Sox acquired:
Derek Lowe Jason Varitek David Ortiz Pedro Nomar/Ocab Kevin Millar Nixon
I mean a Yankee fan calling out the 2004 Red Sox is riciulous, crapon the 2007 team, I 100% agree but 2004 wasnt a 'bought' team.

Yea I'm the baby but you are typing in caps and saying JESUS CHRIST GO AWAY I don't like what you have to say it's ruining my cherished MLB thread that I rule as King Ralpho. I'm pointing out facts and my opinions.
Yea, I am not upset about the Yankees this year because of the injuries man, jsut like you with Boston last year saying it's not as bad as it seems because of the run down team.
I'm just pointing out facts and my opinions.
I think your World Series was impressive because you came back from 3-0.... other than that, it was easy and cheap after that. Sorry if that upsets you and you have to insult me.

I'll never understand how a team that scores 10, 3, 19 runs is considered 'slumping' but I guess the pinstriped glasses make it tough to see

How was it not a bought team?
You had the second highest pay roll in the league?
Pedro, Manny, Schilling, Ortiz, Damon and many other key parts were not home grown.
These were all moves made to compete with the Yankees buying players and buying championships. Our last 3 championships I'm all for saying yea we paid to get the players there and win it. Our 1996, isn't even in that era of the Yankees going nuts with the check book.

Ralpho come on grow up.... what the hell does Lorenzo have to do with me? Did I call David Ortiz half white? Am I being irrational?
I'm stating facts and opinions that others would not totally discount or disagree with... get over it.
You can try to insult me all you want with your WF lingo or E-Go or whatever it is that you do pretend you have big balls but come on... you and I know what's really going on.
As for the Yankees slumping IN THE LAST FOUR GAMES of that series.... get those numbers out big shot... let's see this one.

I'll never understand how a team that scores 10, 3, 19 runs is considered 'slumping' but I guess the pinstriped glasses make it tough to see Those are the scores to the first 3 games in the series. You think that just because you score all those runs, you're immune from going on an offensive drought? The playoffs are streaky. Teams can turn it on and off at any moment and go into slumps.
