So many of you may know, some of you may not - others may even be the lucky ones who are... Mattel has started to ‘sponsor’ collectors on Instagram and Twitter. I for one think this is bullcrap, and yes I am jealous as lol. Now that I have been clear in my thoughts - I wondered what you guys think? MattelDesignTeam have made it clear that they get frustrated when line ups are leaked or a certain elite 1 figure was ‘stolen’, yet they have now created a scalpers market with these figures they are sending early to their brand ‘partners’. And while it’s not all, it is some who are selling these figures and trying to screw the rest of us. It’s this type of exclusiveness that makes me look long and hard at marvel legends and other lines and consider switching. Way to alienate the vast majority of your collectors MattelDesignTeam Thoughts???

I don't like it.
What's funny is how MDT blew their stack because we'd see lineups early, but all that crap originates from the instagrams of the "elite collectors" on instagram/facebook/twitter who are connected to the factory thieves, and that's the cesspool you want to reward?
The last year of WWE Mattel has become gradually worse in terms of being able to actually get the ****, and the interaction with the consumers outside of vapid social media. I don't want to abandon my collection, but it's easier to think about than ever before.

I have no idea what you're talking about.
Is this like a Pixel Dan type of thing where they send figures to certain people early so they can show them off on social media? If so, it's to get word out about their product. Companies have been doing this for years. Do you think every review on Amazon is from some Heywood who bought the item and gave it a glowing five-star? Nope.
Are you saying some of these people who Mattel have sent these figure to early are then turning around and selling them? Well, if Mattel doesn't obligate them to retain the product for a certain period of time, then it's all good.
What exclusiveness? I'm not even remotely sure where that's coming from.

It has absolutely no impact on me or my life so I don't care. Would I like Mattel to send me free stuff? Absolutely. Would I like to make Instagram a full time job in order to have that? Absolutely not.
Unless it made me extremely rich. Then I'd suffer through it for a few years and retire.

This is normal business. I used to get cds and crap sometimes before release dates to do reviews when I worked for my college paper...it’s the same premise.
It’s not like they’re giving these guys some sort of limited figure we can’t get anywhere.
If all you guys stopped watching videos of weirdo men playing with dolls, they wouldnt have audience to review to

I honestly didn't know this was a thing now outside of a few people like Pixel Dan and Zack Ryder. I'll be damned.

Yes, I am saying that they are now selling/trading them, and my point is that Mattel has been very upset when things get out or money is being made and they aren’t getting it (see reissues etc). But now they seem to have created a situation and I wondered what everyone’s thoughts are.

Doesn't bother me. The ones that I follow on Instagram who received the partnerships are either super talented photographers or put in a TON of time and work to their social media accounts. I would never put that much time in.
Not to mention, the stuff they all received so far isn't anything I wanted anyhow.

Doesn't bother me. If they are "sponsored", then they most likely deserved it.

This and the new WWE.com reveals seem to be a targeted approach to market their product. That's a great thing. Many products do something similar to this. It's a great (insanely cheap) way to get eyeballs on your product among your target audience. Most people receiving the products are just not so blatant about saying "hey, I got free stuff from this company!"
Most companies have clauses that the products they send can't resell (they're often used as giveaways on social media), since the promotional samples come out before the street date. So if people getting these figures are throwing them up for sale to make a quick buck, hopefully those people will be removed from the program.
But seeing increased marketing and outreach from Mattel is absolutely a good thing no matter how you cut it.

I’m a little jelly but it is what it is. Would be stoked if I got chosen lol. But I think it’s some “help us promote our figures” type of thing. I’ve noticed that the ones that are chosen have a crazy amount followers and post a lot of wwe Mattel figure related stuff whether it be posing or posting mail hauls and reviews. Also hashtaging mattel Lol. Doesn’t really take much honestly. So maybe that’s what you need to do to get chosen. Any insight on the choosing/qualification process MattelDesignTeam? I think this is info we’d all like to know
