Are you SURE Vince asked Hogan to go heel? Cause I don't believe that for a second. Vince NEVER turned a babyface heel like that, especially someone on top. I remember Vince turning his top babyface heel on April 1st 2001. Man what a terrible decision that was.

I'd ... I'd like to try and believe ... not so much that Sid was misquoted, but just that he said it the wrong way? Like when he says he didn't know he was in the main event of WrestleMania, hell didn't know he was AT WrestleMania, that maybe he meant it didn't feel like Mania to him? Like, to him it didn't feel like the big thing everyone says it is, that magical feeling of performing at one. to him it felt or seemed just like any other show? I didn't know I was at Mania meaning I didn't get the goosebumps, the butterflies, the adrenaline rush you're supposed to get at your first Mania? I don't know , trying to justify Sid can drive you to drink.
Not going to say he would've worked as Hogan's replacement, but the momentum going that way took a HUGE detour when he injured his elbow in the fall of 1991 and had to take several months off shortly after arriving.

Then he repeated it @ Invasion. 2 great PPVs ruined with this idiocy. The crowd DID NOT want to boo Austin....its also one of the top reasons the Invasion was a total bust. Jericho should have turned @ Invasion and been installed as its Leader. A vctory over Austin @ Summerslam 2001 for the strap would have put him over huge. But as I write this? I realise Vince was NEVER interested in making the Invasion work.

Youβre right he just wasnβt interested. For a guy that knows how to make money, he threw a shed load away through piss poor booking of the WCW guys (which he owned the contracts for)

I'm sure Sid wasn't exactly wording this correctly. You have to translate what he is saying sometimes. Of course maybe like the rest of us he thought the title should have been last on the card.

This is the way I see it. People wanted Hulk to be the guy again since SummerSlam 90. At RR91, he wins it, but you could notice people were leaving quickly from the arena compared to how people used to stick around for Hogan's posedown in the past, meaning that maybe his popularity was starting to decline. Then came the whole Gulf War feud, and SS91 was boring with the exception of the wedding and Bret vs. Perfect. Not a great third title run, it almost felt like Hulk wasn't even around.
Survivor Series 91 came along, Hulk lost the title and go back and watch it, people CHEERED when Hulk lost! There were two possibilities for this, the first is that Taker was just way too over, or people were sick of Hulk. We come to RR92, people would cheer Hulk getting thrown out and that was proof that many fans were bored of his gimmick.
Sid at the same time was definitely over in 1991-92, it's just that people keep thinking about the crappy WM13 main event (I read that he was injured and still did the match) or his infamous half a brain promo. From my own research it seemed that it was Hulk who wanted to work a program with Sid, and what better way to take down a possible top babyface who had the look and charisma (note again: AT THAT TIME), by working with that person. You can say what you can about Sid, but most people LOVED working with Hulk, it was always a BIG PAYOFF.

O as for Hulk going heel, I heard about it for 93 as a possibility, but 1992? No way. Hulk was still the top draw up till Wrestlemania 8. He had a movie in the works (Mr. Nanny), so there was no way he'd go heel and ruin chances at a Hollywood career.

Yeah I heard this too, but Sid I believe was supposed to be champion (at WM or before that). This Tuesday in Texas seemed like the first possibility, but he had an injury (or was it because of softball?) and when RR came around, things changed and Flair would be told the day of that he was going to win it. Hogan wanted to work with Sid and that's how that happened.
