Damn, that sucks. A loss to the music world, but an even bigger loss to the Abbott family. Losing Dimebag to that psycho in 2004, and now loosing Vinnie.

So sad. Though I wasn’t a fan of anything he did after pantera, his drumming definitely left a mark on me. Vulgar display of power is always in rotation at my house.
Surprised Phil has out lived both brothers.

I'm absolutely gutted. I'm a big fan of both Pantera and Hellyeah so this sucks

And they were always fun shows, and for some reason something chaotic happened at every one of them haha. As big a Slayer fan I claim to be, I'm a bigger Pantera fan. Everyone swears by VDOP. I swear by Far Beyond Driven. That Album was just ing brutality from the beginning until the Sabbath cover of Planet Caravan. At least he's jamming the out with Dime on the other side now drinking Blacktooths. It sucks...all my heroes are dying. I guess that's what happens as you get older.

God I hope him and Dimebag are reunited somewhere in the cosmos.

It hurts, but like others have said I can just imagine the reunion of him and Dime, and that brings a smile to my face. Pantera, Damageplan, Hellyeah. Those brothers were otherworldy at being able to make music that gets, or gets to, people. RIP and may the world be rocking in their honor tonight. \m/

Mannn....... I'm so thankful that I got to see Pantera three times in my lifetime. Which tours did you see them on? I saw them in 96 with White Zombie and 2000 with Kittie.

This hurts. Pantera was a big part of me in the early 2000’s when i oicked up guitar playing. It gitted me when Dimebag was killed, and now Vinnny is gone. I know they are jamming at the Cemetery Gates. RIP Vin, say hello to DB and Lemmy for is all.

Don’t get me wrong, I love everything they did. Vulgar just holds a special place in my heart. It’s the first heavy album I ever bought as a kid. I can’t deny strength beyond strength though, such a mean opening track. They are the one band I always wish I was old enough to see before they split. The abbot brothers are finally back together.

Terrible news to wake up to. Vinnie was an insane metal drummer. Definitely gone way too soon like Dime. So thankful I saw Pantera back in the day. RIP.

But at least there are plenty of videos and everything of live performances on DVDs and Youtube and the internet of Pantera's performances, them craps were FUN. I'm 36, I was barely old enough to go to some of those, and the first one in early 1995 I was REALLY young to go to see, but it was only about a few miles from my house and I was a pretty independent kid at that point so I only had to be dropped off and picked up by my dad.

reading the news that vinnie passed last night was heartbreaking. pantera was the band that really took me from the "radio metal" bands and into the heavier, faster, angrier bands. they'll always have that special place in my heart. i hope everybody of drinking age here knocks back some black tooth grins in honor of the abbott brothers. rest easy vinnie.
on a sideote, i'm actually kinda worried for phil right now. he's been trying to make amends with vinnie for a while and i hope he copes well and doesn't fall back into his old demons. same with rex.

I remember a letter written to Vinnie when he had his advice column in,was it Metal Edge? I don't know, but it was a fat kid who wrote in about having trouble getting girls,so Vinnie wrote "No brainer. Stop eating Big Macs and you'll be eating p*ssy before you know it" or something like that. Having been a fat kid myself, those were words of wisdom lol.

Sucks. Vinny was an absolute legend. Never really got into Damageplan or Hellyeah, but Pantera changed the game for me. RIP.

Revolver, and you could tell he was just having a blast sending those answers back. He was trying to make the writer laugh, and at the same time give a little bit of wisdom. I liked how once he was responding to a soldier who's sergeant had a problem with them playing metal. And he said "Now this is where I would say you pull a 'Cram job' You blast some Pantera at full volume and basically let him know to off. You might get disciplined, but you'll get your point across." I loved the Abbott brothers, they didn't give a , they just wanted to have a good time.

They were an enigma. They partied like glam guys (which they actually played in their early days) but played metal like men.

I was so crushed when I heard. I still am. The Abbott brothers are my all-time favourite musicians at their position. Bar absolutely NONE. I bawled my eyes out when I read about Dime. Called off work and stayed home from class that night.
Now I lost Vinnie too? Devastated. I'm so thankful for the brief moment I got to share with VP though, because it felt like - through him - I was meeting Dime. It was at Rock Allegiance 2016, just after the HY set - my 2nd HY show. I went through the signing line. Christian signed first, then it was bassist Kyle Sanders. He wasn't paying attention, and Chad yells at him "Come on, Kyle, sign the man's CD! You're holding up the line!" I laughed at that. Then Maxwell, and finally Vinnie. He signed the inside art of the disc tray, and before I left the line, I said "Vinnie, can I have a hug?" His response? "Rock'n roll, man. Let's do this." I almost broke down as I hugged him. I told him thank you for all of his music. He said "Thanks for being on the journey with me. We still got a long way to go." After that moment, I went into the bathroom stall and cried. Because I finally got to meet him and it meant more to me than anyone I'd ever met in music before that point. As I said, I felt like I was meeting Dime through VP, and the impact Pantera had on me - hearing Walk as a young, impressionable 12 year old [thank you to RVD for having that as his ECW entrance theme], it really changed my life. I'd heard Metallica 2 years prior but only really listened to that as far as heavy music had gone until Pantera.
I will always love Darrell and Vinnie like they are brothers of my own. I'm sure many others feel that way too, but this hurts. I'm still not over Dime, almost 14 years later. Then last year, we lost Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington within 2 months of each other. Those hurt more than anyone since Dime. But this? It's like how I felt when I woke up on December 9, 2004 and read the first snippet of the article. "A gunman storm a stage in Columbus, OH last night, killing top heavy metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, and 3 others before being shot and killed by police."
This hurts. I'll probably never get over this. But I can take solace in knowing that Dime and VP are reunited again, jamming wherever they are, and just raising all sorts of hell together. And a sidebar. It was revealed that VP had recently finished his drum tracks on the 6th Hellyeah album. I hope Chad, Tommy, Kyle, and Christian finish the album and release it as a tribute to Vinnie.
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING VP!
