I thought this would be a fun topic. You know the drill, as we've done it in the past. And incase you don't, all you basically do is give each player and your overall team a letter grade for how they've done at the half way point in the season. I'll go first...
New York Yankees - D Overall Record: 42-43 Standings: 2nd/ 3rd Place in AL East (10 games behind) Manager: Joe Torre - D Pitching Coach: Ron Guidry - B+ Team MVP: Alex Rodriguez Worst Player: Wil Nieves Best Pitcher: Chien-Ming Wang Worst Pitcher: Kei Igawa
Position Players C Jorge Posada - A C Wil Nieves - F- 1B Doug Mientkiewicz - C 1B Jason Giambi - Inconclusive 1B Andy Phillips - C 2B Robinson Cano - C+ 2B Miguel Cairo - B SS Derek Jeter - A+ 3B Alex Rodriguez - A+ LF Hideki Matsui - B CF Johnny Damon - C- CF Melky Cabrera - B+ RF Bobby Abreu - D RF Kevin Thompson - Inconclusive
Starting Pitching RHP Roger Clemens - B+ RHP Chien-Ming Wang - A- LHP Andy Pettitte - B+ RHP Mike Mussina - C+ LHP Kei Igawa - F
Bullpen/ Relief Pitching RHP Brian Bruney - B RHP Kyle Farnsworth - D LHP Mike Myers - C RHP Scott Proctor - B+ RHP Luis Vizcaino - C+ LHP Ron Villone - C RHP Edwar Ramirez - Inconclusive RHP Mariano Rivera - B+
Overall Final Thoughts: It's been an incredibly dissapointing first half of the season for the Yankees. Combined with poor management, injuries and inconsistancy, the Yankees find themselves 10 games out of first place in the AL East heading into the All-Star break with a record under .500. Outside of a few bright spots, this team has been embarassingly bad and would need an incredible second half of the season, plus a ton of luck, in order to make the playoffs.

New York Yankees - C+ Overall Record: 42-43 Standings: 2nd/ 3rd Place in AL East (10 games behind) Manager: Joe Torre - C Pitching Coach: Ron Guidry - B+ Team MVP: Alex Rodriguez Worst Player: Wil Nieves Best Pitcher: Chien-Ming Wang Worst Pitcher: Kei Igawa
Position Players C Jorge Posada - A C Wil Nieves - D- (cmon as a backup) 1B Doug Mientkiewicz - C 1B Jason Giambi - Inconclusive 1B Andy Phillips - C 2B Robinson Cano - B 2B Miguel Cairo - C as a hitter/B- as a fielder SS Derek Jeter - A+ 3B Alex Rodriguez - A+ LF Hideki Matsui - B CF Johnny Damon - C (for being injured and still playing) CF Melky Cabrera - B RF Bobby Abreu - C- RF Kevin Thompson - Inconclusive
Starting Pitching RHP Roger Clemens - B RHP Chien-Ming Wang - A+ LHP Andy Pettitte - B+ RHP Mike Mussina - C+ LHP Kei Igawa - F RHP Tyler Clippard-D RHP Matt Desalvo- D
Bullpen/ Relief Pitching RHP Brian Bruney - B+ RHP Kyle Farnsworth - B- LHP Mike Myers - C RHP Scott Proctor - B- RHP Luis Vizcaino - C+ LHP Ron Villone - B- RHP Edwar Ramirez - Inconclusive RHP Mariano Rivera - B
Conclusion: With all the injures to the Pitching, they are a solid C. The hitting is on and off beside Jeter and Arod. Cano is starting to heat up and Matsui is finding his form. If all the Yankee starters can average 6 ips/start, the bullpen will be fine. Prediction: Yankees win AL EAST (yes you are hearing it here)

RHP Kevin Slowey - C RHP Sidney Ponson - F RHP Ramon Ortiz - C+
Bullpen/ Relief Pitching RHP Pat Neshek - A RHP Matt Guerrier - A RHP Juan Rincon - C RHP Ramon Ortiz - C+ LHP Denny Reyes - B+ LHP Carmen Cali - Inc. RHP Joe Nathan - C+
RHP Jesse Crain - Inc. LHP Jason Miller - Inc. RHP Julio DePaula - Inc.
*Italicized are not currently on the active roster, but were with the team at one point.
Overall Final Thoughts: This team has been playing .500 ball all year, so they deserve nothing better than an average grade, therefore they get a C. Either the pitching is outstanding, but there's no run support, or we score 6 runs, but they give up 10. It's ridiculous. We are, however, historically a better second half team, so hopefully we can pick ourselves up again similarly to last year. Prediction: Wildcard playoff berth.

C+ for a 3rd place team below .500, I wish I got C+'s for doing that poorly throughout school.

You are a very nice man, the only D's Julio Lugo and Wily Mo Pena have seen lately are off the hookers they are beating. Both deserve giant F's. Curt Schilling also deserves a D, because he sucks big balls. You are too nice.

What do u mean? I said a C+ team for not having any pitching. Some people acctually don't spend 50+ million to talk to a guy...you just go up to him....and dont say yanks spend x amount of dollars. The Saux were willing to pick up Arod's contract too. The would spend double for Jeter too.

i don't understand how can you guys give Jeter an A+ for right now.....i can understand the past years and possibly this year only because of hitting...but com'on his defense has been at best average this season...he deserves like an A- for right now just because of his defense

Philadelphia Phillies - C+ Overall Record: 44-44 Standings: 3rd place (4.5 out of 1st.) Manager: Charlie Manual - D Team MVP: Chase Utley Worst Player: Wes Helms Best Pitcher: Cole Hamels Worst Pitcher: Freddy Garcia
Position Players C Carlos Ruiz - C+ C Rod Barajas- F 1B Ryan Howard - B 2B Chase Utley - A+ SS Jimmy Rollins - B+ 3B Wes Helms - F 3B Greg Dobbs - B 3B Abraham Nunez - C- LF Pat Burrell - F LF Mike Bourn - C CF Aaron Rowand - A+ RF Shane Victorino - A
Starting Pitching RHP Adam Eaton - B LHP Cole Hamels - A+ LHP Jamie Moyer - B- RHP Kyle Kendrick - A RHP John Lieber - C *INJ RHP Freddy Garcia - F *INJ
Bullpen/ Relief Pitching RHP Antonio Alfonseca - C+ LHP Mike Zagurski - C+ RHP Jose Mesa - F RHP Brian Sanches - B RHP Ryan Madson - B LHP J.C. Romero - inconclusive
Overall Final Thoughts: What was sure to be a promising season has been plagued with injury throughout the phillies pitching staff. At the beginning of the season we had a problem because we had 6 starting pitchers and only a 5 man rotation. Now at all star break we are down to 3 starters, and no closer. It is somewhat impressive to be .500 after all these freak injuries but at the same time it seems manual has screwed us over in to many games and this team should be atleast 10 games above .500. This teams lineup should be putting runs up every game no matter whose pitching, but it seems we are very inconsistant.
*side note* the phillies next lose will be the franchises 10,000 lose, the most of any professional sports team.
