I know Virgil is a running joke in the wrestling world, and it's kind of seeped into his wrestling career too, which I feel is a little bit unfair. I mean, he played his roles perfectly. As DiBiase's man servant he was perfect. He pulled off the whole face turn perfectly where he was the man that Dusty at the very beginning and then Roddy Piper tried to sway him from under M$M's influence and finger. I remember being at house shows when he had just turned face and was feuding with DiBiase and he was actually one of the more over wrestlers I always noticed. I loved him. I thought he was a sound wrestler...nothing special...but proficient enough. I marked out when he won the Million Dollar Championship. Then when he went on to become lower mid card "jobber to the stars" he pulled that role off just fine. Then in WCW he played his role as lackey perfect as primarily a bump taker. I mean. He went out there and did what was asked of him. Now, yes, he was supposedly nuttier than a craphouse rat backstage, but in front of the camera he did alright. He cut a decent promo. All that. Now he gets crapand looked at as a wrestling outcast... "Lonely Virgil" We've seen the empty lines. His weird antics. Hell, I even remember a story notsam telling about either him or E-Rock (Another former employee of Opie and Anthony) being angry that Virgil signed his Million Dollar belt. Why? He held it during his career haha! I get that post wrestling might not have been kind to him. But in the ring and during his career he was alright, and through 1991 was pretty popular. Sorry for rambling, I don't have work today and got up really early for something that got cancelled so I've probably had way too much coffee.

I liked his match against Sid Justice, where Sid broke his nose. Was good in that angle, sold it perfectly and kind of defined the importance of his role.
It helped getting Sid’s psycho role over without using too much of a named star. And if it wasn’t for Virgil and people on his tier on the cards, many of the big names in wrestling may have struggled to get over. Back in the prime time days having Virgil job to a bigger star made for a better match than against a no named jobber.
I agree he did have an important part to play.

When Virgil bashed Ted's face in with the Million Dollar Belt at the Royal Rumble, the place came unglued!!
Virgil had real momentum from January - November of 1991. When he lost the Million Dollar Title at the Survivor Series Showdown show, his steam seemed to have left too.
He got a victory at Wrestlemania VIII, but it was in that 8 man tag. I think after that he lost every PPV match he was on. Yokozuna pretty much destroyed him at Survivor Series 92 with his banzai drop.
I remember in 1993, Virgil would end up teaming with the enhancement talent and putting over the top stars. So his time was clearly done. But he had a good year in 1991!

I think Virgil vs Ted Dibiase at summerslam 91 is an underrated match.

I too was into his solo run... at first. It was fun, but it quickly turned sour once he started jobbing out left and right. I was a big Ted Dibiase mark, so I always liked Virgil too.
I've seen him at a toy conventions over the years. And some of the people I was with got his signature on a pic of the Mega Bucks. I kinda lingered nearby cause I'm not to into autographs. And he's always saying "hi" to fans. He seemed like a pretty cool guy.

He was great in his role as Dibiase's man-servant, as the NWO bump taker, and even as Curly Bill in the West Texas Rednecks. I think his wrestling attire in WWE (the candy stripe pants) hurt his credibility. And barely ever wrestling or tagging in jeans in WCW also added to the jobber persona. Without the silly attire, he still had weak mic skills, but his wrestling was decent. I think he could have won more matches with better attire, but even with all the losses, he had a memorable career.

I feel like if it did happen Virgil would somehow have one of the most memorable induction speeches of all-time.

If you actually had a conversation with him you would realize he is as carny as they come and still treats everyone like marks, insulting fans' intelligence with some of his wild claims. A worker til the end.

I used to make fun of Virgil for his neckbreaker finisher as the most devastating move of all time. But I do agree he made Dibiase look good, you could say the Million Dollar Man was a package.
