So I was talking to my woman, the other day about the way things have changed a lot in the last 10 years. We both got onto the Alberto Delrio/Jack Swagger program ironically We both discussed if the angle would work today, and how it would be reacted to.
Leaving everyone's personal politics aside, but still act taking into consideration how much of a debated issue immigration is in the US how would this angle do now? Immigration was a huge topic of heated debate back in 2013, even to 2004 and before. Glenn Beck among others had some feelings to this angle. Although now, it's off the charts. Would this lead to a huge media backlash? A massive WrestleMania match, drawing in huge money?

I rather not think of that feud. That was a horrible Wrestlemania World Title match, when others could have done so much better given the shot at being World Champion or challenging for that World Title then.

Eddie Guerrero vs JBL

Direct rehash of JBL vs Eddie and Vince at his laziest. Swagger & Zeb were good in the role and I could only imagine what would have happened if someone likeable like a Rey Mysterio Or Eddie Guerrero had been in the "victimized immigrant" role.
Instead they had a guy who was ignorant wealthy heel # 3287 the month before in the role. Bah.

A far better feud. It got heat then, if it happened now the heat would be nuclear from the fans.

i wish they would have more politically charged characters, but wwe stopped pushing the envelope in any manner some time ago now.

Honestly i dont think the topic is any more or less relevant today then it was then. The media/social media is just force feeding it down our throats to make it a big deal.
I do agree there are some subjects that just simply wouldnt work in the WWE. Both as social & fan base standards. It would be hard to have a character like big boss man be an abusive cop or a radical african american group. I know they hint at it from time to time but im not sure "openly gay" as in a stereotypical character would work either. It wouldnt necessarily cause a storm but I feel people would just feel its being force fed to them and change the channel. Which is the last thing WWE can afford right now.

Since Linda McMahon is part of Trump's Admin, I doubt they would go down such a route at this time.

You can’t do anything politically charged anymore without hurting someone’s feelings and eventually losing a sponsor or something like that.

If Jack Swagger won the feud,Twitter would meltdown and Vince's name, face, and voice would be edited out of everything WWE ever. I wish I was joking.

It was hotly contested in 2013, it was a huge stance in the 2016 elections. Although, with the recent happenings in policy to the immigrants, ''the wall'', etc it has made it even more touchy. With today's current America, not a lot of political issues can be put into a WWE angle.

ADR/Swagger main evented an indy show in my area in the last few months. It was crazy to remember that less than 5 years ago they were in a WM world title match.

Swagger and "Jumanji guy" Zeb Colter would be the top faces today with the gimmick they had in '13 and '14.

I rather not think of that feud. That was a horrible Wrestlemania World Title match, when others could have done so much better given the shot at being World Champion or challenging for that World Title then. So true, Jericho was booked against Fandango, Ziggler and Bryan were booked in a pointless throwaway tag title feud, Cesaro wasn't even on the card. When I think of Del Rio and Swagger, I think of how many guys between 2010 and 2015 lost out on what could have been great stories and feuds and were constantly buried because both (Del Rio especially) got pushed time and time again and proved time and time again that they didn't have the chops to cut it in the main event spot.

It happened to turn out to be one of the worse.
