Straight up simple question, which chippy served you the best fish and chips?
For me, I could never go wrong with Major’s chippy in Bilston however they got greedy and their portions shrunk but I still love it though. I remember really enjoying it at a chippy in Blackpool too but I was a kid and can’t remember the name, I wanna say it was called “The Sea” but I’m not sure.
Hands down though, the WORST fish and chips I ever had was in Malia, Greece. I got a little homesick on holiday so I ordered it and was basically given a tray of oil, I had to throw it away after 2 bites 🤢

It's gonna sound strange but the chips I had in Spain on holiday as a kid were always the best. No matter where I had them. I love vinegar on them and their chip and vinegar combo was just perfect for some reason. There was one chippy nearby my home that was awesome too but they closed years ago. Not really a fan of most chip shop offerings these days. Had some pretty nice ones at a restaurant in Newcastle called Revolution tonight actually.

There's a place called Wilson's in my hometown that was always incredible when I was a kid.

Not sure on the best but the worst was easily from Harry Ramsdens in Ashford. Was violently ill for 2 days after eating it. Put me off eating Cod for years and it’s only recently I’ve been able to start eating it again.

Yorkshire are famous for cooking the best fish+chips. There secret they cook them in beef dripping not veg oil. also they add beer to the batter, the result is crispy brown batter+brown marbled chips not yellow batter with anemic chips nicely covered in oil "stodge" also the other secret is the temperature of the oil, when i was a child we'd go to are gran's house in Castleford Yorkshire the fish shop yes not chippy would only open at dinner time, tea time, pubs kicked out, there would be a queue always waiting even before it opened so they could keep the oil just right. The only queue you see at the one at the end of my street is on match days. even Harry Ramsden is a tyke, but those fast food one's just have is name over the door.also you get scrapes in Yorkshire if you asked for them here they'd think you were looking for a kickoff.

Most fish n chips in Yorkshire are amazing to me! 😋 The best for me is Bizzie Lizzie’s in Skipton or the Wetherby Whaler in Wetherby, Guiseley, York, Wakefield and Pudsey. I like Harry Ramsdens too.
In Scotland, the best for me by far is Land and Sea in Polmont (near Falkirk).
The thing with Bizzie Lizzie’s in Skipton is that they have a takeway and restaurant, which I’ve taken the family to a few times and they also have a seperate fast food style outlet as well, which is cool for a town that doesn’t have a McDonalds. I used to go in on a day off and get a fish burger with curry sauce in it.
Most of my fish n chips I will have with curry sauce and bread and butter with a cup of tea, but occasionally I’ll swap the curry sauce for mushy peas. If I’m very hungry in Yorkshire I’ll also order a fishcake = two slices of potato with a slice of fish sandwiched between them in batter. Oh yeah!
Also, up here in Scotland, for dessert I like a battered chocolate bar - they do more than just Mars Bars!

It's ironic that the Wetherby version is by far the worst one of them all been the namesake! The York is best. Living in Wetherby you knew never to go to the whaler, better to go down the road to the frying pan, so much better. Murgatroyds in Leeds is up there as best for me now. At school was Drakes in Harrogate.
