Remember when Hulk Hogan and Mr. T were promoting WrestleMania on The Richard Belzer show? Hulk put Richard Belzer in a sleeper hold and knocked him out.

Yup. And at the time I had no sympathy for Belzer because I thought he was an a$$. (Although he did grow on me over the years on SVU) but in that clip he went on to show David Schultz slapping the reporter upside the head after the reporter kept saying wrestling was fake. Finally Schultz gave the guy a couple open hand slaps upside the head asking “Is that fake?” while holding the guy up from falling. Pretty sure that’s what cost Schultz his job in the WWF.

Yep I remember this. Jesse Ventura referenced this segment during the Hogan/Warrior match at WM VI.

He worked for them for 2 more months. The end came when he tried to hijack the WM main event. At a a house show in L.A. where Mr T was making an appearance, he was going to go into business for himself. Patterson or somebody knew he might try something and tipped off security. When Schultz made his move they dragged him out of the building and put him on a plane. He never returned.

When Schultz made his move they dragged him out of the building and put him on a plane. He never returned. From what Schultz says Vince wanted him to sign some papers saying it was all on him that Vince and the WWE had no idea what he was going to do in that interview. And he wouldn’t sign it because he claims in frontier of the whole locker room Vince came in and told him to do the interview and light him up. And he said that went on for a few months. Then the night of that show he says he and Mr T were friends and were talking in the back earlier in the day. And later when Chief Jay Strongbow came in he told Schultz that he was done. At least that is what Schultz claims in interviews. But either way I would say that was the end of his WWF career.

The sleeper wasn't as bad as him cracking his head on the floor.
And Hogan's reaction made this a very laughable moment for me.

What’s not shown in the original video is the lead up where Belzer was being an 🍑🤡, mocking Hogan and T. He totally got what was coming to him.

I actually only found out about this a few years ago. the 80s and early 90s seemed to have an obsession with weird creepy men having their own talk shows.

Actually he did not knock him out at all.
It was all a work.
Initially the show producers wanted Richard B to go over (as it was his own show) but Hogan was not having any of it "that doesn't work for me brother..."
So Dickie B had to do the job, this did not go down well as it ruined his Talk Show run and Emmy winning chances.

Hogan did the same thing to Warrior at WM6, it looked like an initiation like Hogan was trying to say "you better not screw your title run brother".

Belzer deserved it for mocking T and Hogan.

Hulk Hogan showed good form on that front choke and I wouldnt want to be strangled by his 24" pythons. Even though he's not a shooter, I sincerely believe when Hogan was younger, he knew how to fight.

Hogan talked about this. He said Mr. T and himself were tired and miserable from all the running around doing press and stuff for the first WrestleMania. They finally had a day off when Linda McMahon called him and said that somehow the appearance on Belzer's show fell through the cracks, and they needed to go because the producers had a bunch of handicapped kids there waiting to meet them. So they rushed down there only to find no kids at all. So that pissed them off to begin with. Then Belzer's picking and teasing of them just pushed them over the top. when Belzer wanted Hogan to put him in a wrestling hold, Hulk said his wife was behind the camera mouthing the words "Don't do it!" to him, cause she knew he was pissed off and jacked up.
Hogan said when he put him in the sleeper/choke he should've just worked with Belzer to make it a comedy bit, but he was mad and this was still the days of protecting the business, so he put a legit sleeper on him and pressed the carotid artery enough to legit put him out for real. Hulk said when he felt Belzer go limp he should've eased him down to the floor, but he panicked when he realized what he actually did and just let him go and he dropped to the floor complete dead weight.
