Over the last few months I've been learning to drive and it's going very well. My theory test is coming up next week and I expect to pass that. It's not uncommon for people to buy themselves a car before passing their practical because it gives them something to practice in. I'm at that point of finding a car to buy but wanted to know, for those of you who drive, what your experiences were of learning and then going though buying your first car? Did you buy a cheap one outright for a few hundred quid or maybe a better one on finance?
Personally I've been looking at Honda Civics and have my eye on one in particular for £2,500, which is about £61 a month on finance. And insurance for the first year (full license) will be around £840. I think both of those are decent but would love to hear about your own experience.

Got a red fiesta 59 plate only 1.2 the road tax is only£30 a year , easy on the juice, had a silver one but some melt crashed into the side , the passenger side , Connor sitting there at the time, took is details he,s fine put his hands up to it , but then goes and phones me later on wants to just pay are own damage, does he think iv'e just got off the boat, explained to him that there was a child sat on that side if you were a split second sooner and hit the door you could have taken his legs ,but what changed his mind we had a nice little talk about his health happened more or less at the bottom of are street ,cars a right off took the wheel/axel ,were talking about a fiesta here just cheaper to pay out plus i got £2200 injuries , connor £3000 in a trust for him. paid cash for both don't like finance you end up paying double more or less, i like fords because the parts are cheap if things go wrong and if your buying a banger they will unless mummy + daddy are getting you a new one with a big red bow on the roof . motorange is were i got it had a problem with one of the seats they were happy to fix it you wouldn't believe the first car i had ,will tell use later cos i'm rattling on big clue american muscle car

My dad is a driving instructor so I just paid his petrol for lessons. My partner saved up in the meantime and when I passed, we looked on Gumtree for cars and I got seven seater Citroen in good nick for £3000. We had £1000 initially, but the cars we saw were all in bad condition and the owners all seemed dodgy! So we saved more and got a car that had been looked after better.

I bought my first car for £650, a second hand Mk1 Ford Focus with insurance of £1400! That was in 2011 when I was 21.
I've since upgraded to a Mk2 Focus, managed to get that for £2500, it was like new when I bought it, easily worth double. Just look about and you might find something great for a relatively small price.
As much as I'd love to have a brand new car, you pay a lot each month and don't actually own the car in the true sense.

Your Cadillac must have turned some heads!
