I'm hoping Zeuxis impresses in the tournament. Been a fan of hers for a long time since i started following CMLL. I like that Allysin Kay is in this. I hope they sign Mia Yim to a deal. I see the finals being Io Shirai vs Toni Storm

I'm excited to watch this year's tournament. Lots of great names in it!
I also hope they sign Mia Yim, as well as Allysin Kay and Rachel Evers.
I'm looking forward to seeing how some of the PC recruits have improved since last year's MYC. Kevita Devi, Xia Li, and Reina Gonzalez come to mind.

Kevita already looks like she’s improved greatly based on how she carried herself in the participants introduction. She seems a hell of a lot more confident in herself this time around compared to last year and the Women’s Battle Royal at Mania

I haven't really been following this too closely but I watched Bracketology last night - was the tourney pre-taped? Because I could have sworn I read a thread on here about Teagan Nox injuring herself yet again before this MYC, yet she was profiled on Bracketology. Has she recovered? The tourney launches on Sep-5 so I guess it's not live, is it? isn't it?

Well that sucks that this tourney wasn't a weekly live show.

Kaitlyn is my pick to win the 2018 Mae Young Classic. Kaitlyn is back in the WWE and back in a WWE ring. She is a former WWE Divas Champion how could you bet against her?

She is a former WWE Divas Champion how could you bet against her? see this is what confuses me. At least from Wikipedia the tournament already happened. I wont reveal the finalists, but they are scheduled to meet at Evolution PPV. I wish they would have made this thing live instead of pre-taped.

If that is true and the tournament is already pre-determined then there's no sense in even getting excited about it

Good first show. I love Tegan, while Lane, Kelly, and Ripley all impressed. Satomura was obviously great.

WWE Mae Young Classic September 5th, 2018 | Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida
I’ve been really busy with the final month or so of my Bachelor’s Degree program (at Full Sail!) so I’ve been unable to review shows or cover NXT live for spam.com like I normally would. However, I was too excited for the Mae Young Classic to not cover it all. Last year’s tournament was good, but this year’s field is much stronger and I honestly haven’t been this pumped for something wrestling related in a while.
The commentary trio is Michael Cole, Beth Phoenix, and Renee Young.
Mae Young Classic First Round: Tegan Nox vs. Zatara Of course, each match was preceded by video packages to showcase each competitor. Zatara is a 26-year old from Chile who wears a luchador mask. Tegan Nox is the former Nixon Newell. She’s a HOT prospect who has been unfortunately derailed by injuries since getting signed, including last year’s tournament. She’s 23. Zatara got hyped as being a physical competitor, though it wasn’t like she hit Tegan that hard. She did play the heel by talking smack to the crowd and suckering Tegan in for a cheap shot. She also targeted Tegan’s knee brace and Tegan sold the damage mostly well, though she did use it for offense at moments that didn’t entirely make sense. She did use it for the finish, hitting the Shiniest of Wizards at 6:11. A fun start to the tournament. Tegan’s knee seems like it will be a storyline throughout. Good action, especially once the leg work began. [***]
Ember Moon and Alexa Bliss were shown in the crowd.
Mae Young Classic First Round: MJ Jenkins vs. Rhea Ripley Ripley shined in last year’s tournament, especially when she lost to Dakota Kai. This time around, she has a more aggressive demeanor and promised to show everyone what she’s about. She’s just 21. MJ Jenkins is from Brooklyn and is also signed to the company. No handshake from Rhea, solidifying that she’s here to win and not make friends. Cole spent a strange amount of time during the match comparing Rhea’s looks to Charlotte. I don’t see it at all. Jenkins showed fire early, but Rhea quickly turned it around. She’s a powerhouse, which was evident by a sweet stalling vertical suplex. Though we got a bit more fire from MJ, she never truly threatened. Rhea put her down with a pumphandle powerbomb at 6:40. Another solid match, though it was a bit too one-sided to stand out. Still, I dug MJ’s energy and Rhea looked like a beast, which is how it should be. [**¾]
Lio Rush was shown in the audience.
Mae Young Classic First Round: Lacey Lane vs. Vanessa Kraven Kraven’s vignette explained that she has a soft side, but is known as “The Mountain.” She’s 36. Lacey Lane is 30, signed in 2017, and is still relatively new to the business. It’s also a home game for her, as she’s from Winter Park. There’s a David vs. Goliath, or a Mountain vs. The Viper for the Game of Thrones fans out there, vibe to this. Lane’s gear gives a Scorpion from Mortal Kombat vibe. She impressed early, but was quickly overwhelmed by Kraven’s size. Kraven went to the cannonball in the corner well one too many times and missed. That allowed Lane to get in some shots and hit a crucifix bomb for the upset at 4:49. The weakest match so far, but it wasn’t bad. They told the story they needed to and Lane looked pretty good despite not being very experienced. [**¼]
Natalya got interviewed to put over the Mae Young Classic and the passion of the women involved. She’s rooting for Mia Yim and Io Shirai.
Funaki and Tye Dillinger were sitting together in the crowd. Make them a trios team with R-Truth.
Mae Young Classic First Round: Killer Kelly vs. Meiko Satomura When Meiko was 16, she wrestled on WCW Nitro some 21 years ago. She’s a legend and co-founder of Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling. Kelly is the first Portuguese female to wrestle in WWE. She worked the NXT UK stuff recently, is 26, and another hot prospect. Kelly wasn’t intimidated by Satomura, doing her best to match her in strikes. It was a futile effort, but dammit she tried. Satomura showed off a badass arsenal. From stiff strikes to vicious looking submissions to her fantastic cartwheel double knee strike, it all looked great. Kelly’s hanging dragon sleeper was as impressive as ever. Her fisherman suplex near fall seriously popped the crowd. Satomura advanced with a Pele and DVD at 7:39. A great way to close out episode one. Kelly showed why she’s so highly touted and Meiko was as fantastic as advertised. Kelly coming close to winning was more than I expected. [***½]
Overall: 6.5/10. A fun way to start the tournament. You never expect bangers each time out in the first round, so I was happy to see us get competitive matches that were enjoyable and showcased exactly what it needed to. The presentation was top notch and the commentary is vastly improved over last year.
