yea, NCAA football starts tonight. i know there aren't a lot of big fans here, but its still always good to throw down a thread or two to generate some discussion amongst old-timers like erik hammer and krushington and the ghost of rwvikes
#2 LSU against mississippi state is the big one tonight... the bayou bengals should win it quite easily, but don't sleep on some of the defensive talent that Sly Croom is compiling at miss state. junior DB Derek Pegues is a favorite of mine, and this year he makes the transition from CB to SS. he'll definitely be playing on Sundays. also keep an eye on DE Titus Brown and MLB Jamar Chaney.
LSU is just loaded with NFL talent. RB Keiland Williams, WR Early Doucet, WR Brandon LaFell, OT Ciron Black, OG Herman Johnson, OC Brett Helms, DT Glenn Dorsey, DE Tyson Jackson, DE Rahim Alem, OLB Ali Highsmith, CB Chevis Jackson and FS Curtis Taylor are all legit NFL prospects.
and of course, Saturday is the much-hyped rematch between Tennessee and California. should be great. something to keep an eye on: Cal CB Syd'Quan Thompson. last year, he almost single-handedly made Tennessee WR Robert Meachem a 1st round pick, because Meachem beat him up and down the field. Meachem is gone, and Thompson is a whole new player. kid is going to be playing with a vengeance all year, and especially in this game

poor ralpho.
My alma mater is usually supported by rednecks who never even sniffed college. So it's ok.

Mike Henig is really ing things up for miss state. i mean 4 picks in the first half, not good at all. miss state needs to just pound away with my boy dixon.

half my alma mater cared more about the buckeyes than their own school. one of the 60 million reasons I can't stand ohio state.

louisville ravaged murray state, none too surprising really... but at least murray state produced an early nominee for catch of the year. anyone else see soph WR Derrick Townsel's catch on Murray State's opening drive? thrown above and behind him, he caught it one handed about 10 feet off the ground and behind his head
poor Sly Croom... can't get an offense to save his life, but that defense is nasty. made Matt Flynn look very, very pedestrian. which he probably is, but thats not good news for LSU. maybe their BCS title hopes lies in the hands of the once uber-prep Ryan Perrilloux? nah, probably not
oh, and i've heard all the hype and hyperbole surrounding blue chip QB Jake Locker and his arrival at U of W... well, I've only seen the first two quarters of his very first collegiate start against Cuse tonight, but if it is any indication... he is going to be special. 6'4", 225, uncanny burst and elusiveness for a (white) QB of his size, and all the pocket passing efficiency you'd expect from a former State player of the year. Ty Willingham has reason to be excited... too bad he probably won't be around for the rest of Locker's career.

Good teams win. Great teams cover.

man, so many people were harping on the Big East and Big Ten for opening their schedules with mostly-D2-laden openers.
"not so fast, my friend"
michigan is losing to the reigning D2 champions, appalachian state, 31-26 late in the 4th... absolutely UNREAL.
this will literally make my month--if not my year--if michigan craps the bed, in the big house, in the opener, against a division-2 opponent. it will literally make my damn month.

Looks as though you are going to need to find another thing to cheer up your month, Michigan just took the lead
