After his victory over Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino become the longest WWWF champion ever with a 7 year reign defeating all who challenged until 1971 when Ivan Koloff defeated him to end the 7 year reign. But What If someone had defeated Bruno before that? What if Burno’s reign had came to an end before 1971? Who could’ve done it? How would wrestling be affected by it?

Nobody could replace Bruno in the territory, he was always the top draw that they kept using him when Backlund couldn't draw enough. If there was a "need" to replace him before 1971 (ie. injury), I'd probably go with Bobo Brazil. He was the first real African-American to win the NWA World title in 1962, but the NWA didn't recognize the title win, what a shame.

Bruno was vital. IMO they would've never had all those sell outs in The Garden without em.

the italian market was their focus with Bruno, but also his cross appeal. If it wasn’t Bruno, i’d argue that it would have had to be another wrestler of Italian heritage. I’d go with Dominic DeNucci, considering he won tag championships with Bruno and was very over in the NY market.
