What if Hogan had beaten Taker at Judgement Day 2002 and kept it until Mania XIX dropping it to Lesnar (or someone else who would’ve won it). Do you think fans would’ve been okay with Hogan as champ for a year? Do you think he should’ve retained at Judgement Day?

Way too much talent on the roster at that time to have Hogan hold the belt for that long. I would say it would have been cool to see Brock beat Hogan at SummerSlam for the belt.

Hogan was never meant to be the champion. Triple H was poised that year to be the top babyface, but it was Triple H apparently that wanted to drop the strap to Hogan. It should've been a rematch with Triple H and Hogan with Hogan dropping it back to Triple H, that made more sense.

To me that clearly threw off all of their plans going forward the rest of the year. I feel like they were building towards a big HHH (c) vs Lesnar match at SummerSlam that clearly could not happen once Hogan took the strap. Between HHH getting legit injured and Vince seemingly changing his mind every week with regards to the main event scene and people can see why it was so crazy back then. I think it worked out best though as Brock got a huge rub from Hogan and Rock before both went on a hiatus. It would not have been the same had Brock simply taken the belt from Hogan with no rub from Rocky.

It was a nice nostalgia moment giving Hogan the belt one more time but I knew it wouldn't last since he was near 50 at the time and way past his prime.
The pop he got when he did win it from HHH was like a throwback to the 80s so I'm little surprised they didn't run with it for a little bit until at least SSlam where he'd lose it to Brock.

It was by this time point the nostalgia was wearing off, he shoulda dropped the title back the next night and been written off TV the next week.

I think it was done the right way. Brock really needed the accolade of taking the belt off of The Rock, and he got the rub from Hogan when he demolished him on Smackdown, so I think everything was done correctly.

This fact alone was totally worth it. - maybe it was also a factor to the decision. And a good reason to really respect Trips. This title has a great history although short. Y2J Triple H Hogan Undertaker Rock Lesnar if that is not a 'Mount Rushmore' of WWE legends than idk what is.

I'm about as big of a Hogan fan as there is, but I agree that it was pretty good the way that it was. He was still super over, but people would get tired of his limited ability if it had gone any longer. Last WWF champion, first WWE champion - that's the legacy of that reign...and its a pretty damn good legacy for something that was done for nostalgia. He was also on his best behavior during that run, like he was humbled and appreciative. From all reports he was one of the boys.
Part of me wishes that he had just had that match with McMahon at Summerslam or Survivor 2002 and then retired. He would be remembered in a far better light.
