I’ve been looking around after getting some of my display back out and noticed there were originally slated to be 8 of these guys. I have HBK, Bret, Goldust, Sid, Taker and Yokozuna. Does anyone have any information on the Austin and Andre? We’re they scrapped from production? I haven’t been able to find them on eBay, so wasn’t sure if I had them all or not. Not my photos:

I definitely don't remember ever seeing Andre in stores. Not sure on Austin.

I seem to remember that they were moved back to a second wave, but sales on the first six were so bad that the line was cancelled before they got produced.

I always heard that Andre and Austin were not released.

I ALWAYS looked for that Andre, and I'm convinced it was scrapped.

I loved those Grudge Match figures when I was younger! one of my favorite lines of all time, I wish they had a longer run.

I seem to remember that they were moved back to a second wave, but sales on the first six were so bad that the line was cancelled before they got produced. This pretty much sums it up. All eight figures were previewed at Toy Fair in February '97 and expected to be out by April '97. I've seen store reports from early May, but neither Andre nor Austin ever made it to stores. One person reported finding a case with "about" four Undertaker figures and two of everybody else in it (Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Sycho Sid, Goldust & Yokozuna). Another person found 16 figures in all with three of each (maybe don't do the math on that one ).

I just came across my loose Ring Masters set in storage. I forgot all about them, it was so funny having Playmates producing a WWF line. The Grudge Match ones, I still get a laugh looking at them the way they look like crab people lol. The bigger scale collector figures they did were really neat though.

Weird they just threw Andre in there since he had been gone for 4 years by then.

Weird they just threw Andre in there since he had been gone for 4 years by then. This was around the time that WWF was trying to capitalise on its history and merchandise legends a little - but with Hogan/Piper/Savage having gone to WCW, Vince had to act like the biggest stars in WWF history were Andre, Snuka and Blassie.

I remember getting these as a gift back then and for years trying to find (with no luck of course) an Andre figure.

I searched like crazy for them in stores. I'm surprised prototypes have never surfaced.
I own the prototype of the unreleased Playmates Heroes of Wrestling Bret Hart, though.

I wish Owen would have gotten a Ring Masters figure. I always loved sort of the off the wall side products. The Ripped and Ruthless HBK was my most sought after figure for like a year in that late 90s period when I found the Triple H and "Kane" in a bin at TRU.
