Ok I know we now have many of these kind of threads, but they're interesting to say the least. I'm sure most know that the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase was supposed to win the WWF title at Wrestlemania IV. Hogan was on his way out to shoot No Holds Barred, and Randy Savage was meant to win the IC title prior to the event. How do you think Dibiase's run would've been? Would he have held it till WMV? Would Hogan just squash him quickly down the road upon his return? Who would you have him feud first? Dibiase had massive heat at the time so a babyface chase would have to have been a draw. Some babyface contenders (some left shortly after WM4) during 1988: Bam Bam Bigelow, Jake Roberts, Ken Patera, JYD, Warrior, Beefcake, Jim Duggan, Hercules (turned face later on), Don Muraco, Ricky Steamboat...

I think Duggan or Jake would have ended up beating him for the title.

I couldn't see anybody beating him for it besides Hogan/Savage. If he won it at WM IV I gotta think he would hold it until SSlam before dropping it to one of those two. Most likely Savage.

I could see Jake winning it. I retract Duggan though. I forgot that he lost trust from Vince after the Iron Sheik incident

I would assume he would flounder around for the first couple months like Macho did. Defeat random faces like Steamboat, Duggan and possibly even Macho in Title for Title matches. Then we would still get the Mega Bucks vs Mega Powers feud but without the blowoff at SummerSlam. Macho would take the title at SummerSlam and we'd get our Mega Powers vs Mega Bucks blowoff match at SNME. This would also be the match that Macho turns saying he doesnt need Hogan (maybe Hogan attacks Virgil during the match and knocks him onto Liz and we get the same storyline). Then it builds back up for Hogan vs Savage at WMV

I doubt they would've done a title match at SummerSlam since the whole concept was created to build a main event that wasn't common on the house shows (they didn't even think it was going to be an annual ppv, that was reserved at that point for survivor series), which is why we got a tag match in 88.

If anything I could see Savage beating DiBiase for the title definitely not Hogan because I can't stand Hogan hell even back then Hogan was using his creative control card so no I would rather have Savage beat him for the belt but DiBiase he would probably have like a title reign from Mania 4 all the way to SummerSlam 1988 and then lose the title

I would think he would have dropped it to Hogan at Summerslam. I think it was always planned for Hogan to get his belt back when he was done with his movie work. And I don't see them keeping a heel champion for a year long run at that point.

I would have Dibiase win it at WM 4 and pay off managers for their clients to battle with Hogan throughout the year leading to Hulk v MDM at WM5. For example Ted could pay off Heenan for the services of Andre, putting a new dimension on the Hulk v Andre feud, all the while building up the heat between the champ and the Hulkster.
After that have Ted pay off Fuji giving us a six man of MDM and the Powers of Pain v Hulk and Demolition at the Rumble. Hulk could battle against the Twin Towers in the lead up to WM5. This will tap into the everybody has a price gimmick of Dibiase and supposedly weakening Hulk leading into Wrestlemania.
I’ve always liked the idea of MDM having his own faction and once wrote a storyline of him winning the belt around this time, having the Undertaker as his bodyguard and launching a NWO style takeover on the WWF culminating in facing the Undertaker at WM 7
