From what I understand the new articulation for the basics is a cost cutting measure. As a collector it is very disappointing because I have no desire to spend my money on such low quality products which basically means I am not a collector anymore. It’s like they have taken away what I was collecting and replaced it with some other product. I knew that the additions of the zombie/mutant lines and the new female doll things would impact the figures in some way, I just didn’t think it would be in this way. It’s funny to me in a way that a cost cutting measure like this has effectively lost them money by so many consumers rejecting the new design, but that’s what they get I guess.
I also wonder if there was ever any consideration in heightening the articulation and raising the cost. I remember the first Paige elite prototype that had the double jointed knees which looked incredible and I personally would have paid a higher price for it but for whatever reason they went the other way.

My store sells far more basics than anything else. Right now the biggest warmer is Elite 54 Charlotte.

Some pretty helpful replies.
I think I might pick up the Dana if she goes on sale or I see her in person, have yet to run into any Nia sadly.

We all have opinions on here and there are a lot of sour ones lol. Honestly, yeah it sucks sometimes because we were used to the women figures being bendable. But I actually like it this way. I was tired of paying $20 for an Elite when a Basic was the same figure but only $10. Some of the Elite women were only special because of the belts, nothing more. Or in AJ Lee’s case, nothing! That necklace wasn’t nothing special lol. Less articulation means less chance to breaking. I had 4 women figure break because of that thigh joint!

You can easily pick up the articulated (first release) Nia Jax on ebay for $10 shipped. Many of the other basic females are like 5 to 7 bucks too, remember to browse what else a seller has in their store so you can get some shipping discounts.

Before someone less...tolerant starts yelling at you-
I read that the toy lines are given their own individual budgets, so whatever happens in X line has no effect on Y line. (Assuming Monsters/Zombies are their own thing.) If this is true, then the cost-cutting to Basics was done because of something like investors constantly want to see more profits each year, or the company as a whole was making less money and needed to trim the fat somewhere.
(Have any of their other toylines had drastic changes like this, though? That would be an interesting investigation.)

This is true. Bill stated numerous times that the loss of articulation did not have anything to do with zombies/monsters or the doll lines. One does not effect the other, as they each have their own budgets. He also didnt give us the exact reason for the change either. (My guess was profit margin on the cheaper figs needed to increase)

Thank you for your reply and for clearing up any misconceptions I had. Also.... Your opening line made me laugh.

If I collected today’s female wrestlers they’d look fine standing in my shelves.

I still collect them regardless of the loss of certain points of articulation
