Congrats to the Phillies & their fans, I know its been a long time coming & they deserve it. I'm praying for the Rockies to get in, as they havent been in there since '95 when they got spanked by the Braves. I know the Cardinals come first to me in baseball, but the Rockies have always come second. Tomorrow I'm going to strut around Chicago with my Todd Helton jersey & skipping my night class to see the game.

I am practically orgasmic right now. Not only are the Phillies in the playoffs for just the second time in my life, but the Chiefs completely spanked the Chargers in San Diego. It doesn't get any better for me right now. It just can't. I feel like I just got laid by Jenna Jameson but without waking up with an STD the next day.

No no no no no guys Soriano 4 MVP. Then Aramis. Then D-Lee. Because the Cubs won the division. And haven't been in the playoffs for a while. Then Zambrano!! Then Henry Rollins. Then Matt Holliday. Then Chase Utley. Seriously, please let it be Holliday. The Phillies have a three-headed monster with Rollins-Utley-Howard. plz holliday. His OPS makes Rollins' look like a puddle of puke. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH Three headed? Five headed... Yeah, but when you look at the Rockies, they have just as many offensive weapons... Holliday, Hawpe, Atkins, Todd Helton's shell, and Tulowitzki all had very nice seasons... and its comperable production to that of the 5 headed beast in Philly(Howard, Rollins, Burrell, Rowand and Utley)... It will probably be a Rockie or a Phillie to win the MVP. However, if Eric Byrnes' stat line looked a little more impressive, he'd probably gather more attention... I don't think a lot of people realized the great season he was having... 100+ runs, 50 stolen bases, 21 HR, 80+ RBI... not many players do that and play outstanding outfield defense like Byrnes does. The MVP will always be an award that is looked at least partially by statistics. The voters don't watch every game and every team, and every player, so the only way to judge how a player performed is by looking at their stat line... Statistically, Prince Fielder should be the MVP... however, if you're one who considers defense into the equation, you know Fielder is a 400 lb oaf of a first baseman, who would be a DH if he was in the AL. At least there is a discussion about the NL MVP... the AL MVP "race" is quite the boring one.

It'd be funny if Eric Byrnes won the MVP, and then in 2 years was one of the worst contracts/players in the NL. Carlos Quentin > Byrnes, but thats for another night. I agree with WOJC, I'd go Fielder if placings and defense didnt matter, and honestly...if its Rollins or Holliday..you cant complain, same with Beckett and Sabathia. All 4 deserve, all 4 will probably have another shot at the awards again

i didn't mean to delete your reply, i meant to quote it, but proboards makes everything ridicuously hard and i wound up hitting the delete post button. fielder walks a whole lot more, and doesn't have coors field on his side either... put him in that ball park and he'd absolutely murder the ball. not that he should neccesarily be mvp, because im a firm believer that mvp should go to someone who helps their team make the playoffs, and fielder came up a little short. truth of the matter is, without coors field on his side, and the rest of the rockies lineup hollidays stats wouldn't look anywhere near as good as they are... i just don't see how he's far and away a better choice for mvp than jimmy rollins. if we're basing it on their ops, then take coors field into effect too... in the end, it will probably be holliday, and that's fine with me... he's a damn fine choice, and probably deserves it. but rollins has had a more impressive season in my eyes. there's intangibles to his as well-- yes, he had the most plate appearances and at bats in a single season ever-- but 20+ triples, doubles, homeruns, and SBs is absurd any way you cut it, and he lead that team much like holliday lead the rockies. either way, either of the two can win the award and i'll be fine with it... but it's probably going to go to holliday, especially if the rockies manage to get into the playoffs.

Rollins has to be the MVP. He's the spark plug for the best offense in the NL. Plus, he virtually put this team on his back and carried it the whole year the way Ryan Howard did last year. He's a 20/20/20/20 guy and a 30/30 guy. He had a career year and somehow managed drive in 90 some odd RBI's from the leadoff spot. The man is a stud and is the heart of the Phillies team this year.

What have you waited fifteen years for? To say this on WrestlingFigs, a site that hasn't existed for fifteen years? Or are you just trying to act cool on your computer, but not really saying anything to anybody about the Phillies?

Since the MLB thread is closed I thought this was interesting:
The Yankees told Brian Bruney, who pitched in three of the four ALDS games last season, that they won't need him anymore this year and to go home. "I was shocked," Bruney said. The Yankees have decided to go with Ross Ohlendorf, Chris Britton and Jose Veras as bullpen options for the 25-man playoff roster.

OK, now I think people are just taking this whole "they haven't been in the playoffs for 14 years" thing a bit too far. I know you didn't mention it, but people take park factor into account when saying who they think should be MVP, which is bogus. Coors is a mile high, but Citizen's Bank Park is also hitter friendly. That said, I don't think Jake Peavy should win NL Cy Young due to pitching in a pitcher's park. It's UNFAIR! Anyway, no clue why I'm on the Holliday wagon, but I found this guy's MVP argument rather interesting:

LMAO. That must be a good feeling. I don't watch baseball much, but I enjoy comeback stories like this.

Tim is going to rip you apart. rip u How many years has he been waiting to do that? I'm just confused about why a five year-old kid's dream is to make a thread about the Phillies winning on a message board that won't exist for years to come.

...the phillies are champions of the NL east. don't know why the september thread is locked, don't really care. jimmy rollins is the national league mvp, and you'd have to be mildly insane to think otherwise. and i'd like to extend a gracious thank you to the new york mets, for being the most gutless group of choke artists since the 1964 phillies. ;D So the Mets choke and Phillies get a GIFT. And thats it. Enjoy your moment. It will probably be another 15 years before you see the playoffs again.
