The guy was gold and crazy over as an evil clown. He worked with Bret on house shows during early ‘93 and Bruce Pritchard even mentioned talk of giving Doink a bigger role at WM9.
Anyone else a fan of the character? I feel it’s a shame that he has been reduced to a jobber since ‘95 when the character had a lot more potential, especially as a heel.

I mean, he was a clown so you can only take things so seriously but I loved Matt Bourne's take on it. I always liked the deranged and crazy like early Mankind and Doink certainly had that down and down well. His debut match with the stump puller was actually awesome.

I get that my name might have some people toss my opinion aside as just a biased opinion, but the original Doink character was such a great gimmick for the time.
In 1993, it was tough for a heel to get a babyface reaction. Doink did that. He was badass before it was cool to be a badass in the WWF.

That point right there is why I think Doink played by Matt Borne and even all incarnations of Doink was the best gimmick created. The Borne version was so over as a heel but with the fans that if that "possible" rumored match with him and Hogan did happen Doink would have gotten cheered the first time he pulled a prank on Hogan. I do agree as a heel he could have put on classics with Bret over the title. I feel that Doink lost his edge once Borne was fired and turned face. It was still good but pulling pranks is just a heel act that it got old once he turned face because he did more light hearted pranks like tossing water or confetti instead of squirting people in the eye, causing them to trip, hitting them with a mop or arm cast. It was just good heel character, but it made a ton of money as a face with merch. That's just my opinion on Doink and it's unbiased since I don't have a Doink pic up.

Doink as a heel was gold. You could tell Matt Bourne really put everything into the character and it showed.

His prank where he tripped Bossman with the tripwire still gets me every time. Just a great heel. I think his teamup with Lawler should have been played up more as well.
Too bad he was around during the time guys like HBK, Razor, and Diesel were dominating the IC Title scene as I feel like he would have made a fun heel IC Champ.

He was great. I liked when he had a rivalry with bam bam bigelow. Just really wished they gave us figures doink with dink and the two other little clowns and a jerry lawler with his three little kings.

Bruce Prichard said on his podcast he wanted Doink to headline a wrestlemania so he can have some circus-like entrance.
He was great as a heel, but as a kid I even liked him as babyface. Looking back now though, it did kill the character especially when he brought in his "mini me" Dink.
Steve Lombardi has donned the Doink attire right? I may be meeting him at an upcoming convention. Do you think he will sign the Doink entry if asked(I'm also asking him to sign his other gimmick pages)?

Yeah Steve has been playing the Doink character for years (he’s actually played the character a lot longer than Matt did). I’m sure he’ll sign it no problem.

I 100% without a shadow of doubt hated the Doink the Clown character. C'mon, Doink is like Jell-O. There's always room for more.

When I look at the Borne promos now I think "whoa, this guy was GOOD!" and I regret not realizing it as a kid. That WM9 promo on Crush just makes your eyebrow hairs stand up.

He needs to go in the HOF I think the Doink character should go in the hall of fame. I wonder though who would do the speech? Ray Apollo? Steve Lombardi? It would be cool if everyone that played the character got on stage at the ceremony.
