Ok so I'm looking at this from my outlook on things really but I'm sure others must be in the same position.
So I'm starting to really see myself as a collector and in the last 2 years since I started I've got around 80-90 boxed figures and have probably spent somewhere in the region of £2,500 ($3,200 ish). The money spent doesn't bother me too much as although I've no intention of selling if I had to I've got some nice rarer figures I could get some good money for so I almost see the collection as an investment or money in the bank even.
I'm always on the lookout on eBay for some of the rarer older figures and pick these up from time to time but it's costs a fair bit. On top of this there are more than a few on my wish list coming up also.
I've got the new Dusty Rhodes and Goldberg en route and got my eye on 3 or 4 of the up coming pre orders also. Added to that the recent Kane and Simmons exclusives are expensive as well. And I've not even started with retrofest yet.....
I think what I'm (trying) to say is that for a collector there is just too much and it's too expensive and I'm probably not even looking at most of the current market and only collect a small part of what's available.
Most serious collectors want them all but there are just too many and I don't know if in the end it puts people off?
Does anyone see it like this or just me?

It's definitely pick and choose a lot anymore. I've relegated it to Flashback themed elites only and Matt and Jeff elites.

I’m just a cherry picker so I pick an elite or two I really like out of most sets and get those

No way. Lol. But I just wish the NXT line was much easier to get than hoping on target so much

I used to just collect Elite bodied figures, but with the main series, Build A Figure, Network Spotlight, Hall Of Fame, Defining Moments etc, it just became too much so I stopped collecting all together.

There is a lot, yes. It's great, but not always great for the wallet.
With so many to choose from there's definitely some that I'd like to have, but at this time I'm deciding not to get them as there are other figures I would rather have. Breeze, Fandango, Benjamin, Hawkins... yeah I would like to have them, but I'd rather get Styles, KO, Rollins, Finn, etc (even tho I have a ton of them already, but I choose to get just about all of their elites). Not to mention Nakamura, The Usos, and now WM elites that I want as well. At least Christmas is coming lol.

It’s good and bad in a way
It’s good in the way that everyone gets a little of what they collect. The elites cover flashbacks( golden era, new gen, attitude and ruthless aggression era), exclusives, current roster, NXT, women...so if you only collect a certain era you don’t have to wait months in between figures.
It’s bad in the way of figures value dropping every time a character gets rereleased.
I only collect attitude era so I’ve been very happy lately

I’m just a cherry picker so I pick an elite or two I really like out of most sets and get those Yeah, it's definitely this -- and I think it's something that naturally comes a bit difficult to most of us collectors. I'm glad I realized this like 2 years into the line ... I wanna say the first year I had pretty much every elite and the first couple of basic series I tried to grab them all ... this is NOT one of those lines, lol. It goes against the completist nature, but it's 100 percent impossible with a line this large. I can only say what works for me is I buy all elite flashbacks/legends and for modern characters try to stick only 1-2 elites per character (with a few exceptions for favorite characters). And if a new must-upgrade one comes out, get rid of an older one. It's the only way to keep your sanity in a line like this when there's a billion figures coming out at all times. (Also I think completely ignoring the fact that basics exist helps in this regard. To me they're not even there.)

I've been actually buying less lately. Not enough new legends names in the line, and the basic and BP lines in the last year have basically been repeat city. I've been holding out for deals on figures as well trying to be real patient. There aren't that many figures that sell out right away and can't be got later.

Yes there is. All I buy is flashbacks and I feel kind of overwhelmed. Target has a set, Walmart has its own set, the baf, and the ones in the regular line, plus exclusives is just getting out of hand. The fact that stores are getting 26$ for some isn’t appealing either

There's no such thing as having too many options in my eyes. Buy what you like and what your budget can afford. Mattel has done a great job building a comprehensive line that has a little something for everyone. The flip side is that means there are, in total, a lot of figures released. But I'd much rather have the opportunity to buy a figure and pass on it for whatever reason than never have the figure produced at all.

Yes I agree there are too many figures and not enough of a Variety of diffrent figures, i get that certain figures sell, the Cenas, the Reigns, the Rollins, the Ambrose etc. but what about how long it took to get a Curt Hawkins, I mean Absolution and the Riott Squad have almost debuted a year ago already, and we still do not have figures of Mandy, Sonya, an updated Paige, Sarah or Liv, yet Rhonda debuts at Royal Rumble and they rush her to stores. When you have a wave of figures, that is compromised by Cena, Ambrose, Owens, Big E, The Miz, and Another Sasha, something has to give. those figures are sitting on peg hooks everywhere

I too have become more selective. I can no longer afford every RSC exclusive, legend and first time in the line along with multiple rollins/balor/taker attires.
So i've pretty much cut out modern era guys and basics (unless first in the line) and can now keep up a bit better.

I use to buy tons of figures. But this year everything changed. I only bought a few basics and not because of the articulation change but because nothing has enticed me to buy it. Maybe I just like Bills designs and not the other guy I am not sure. The giant wrists on the newest waves of basics doesn't help either. There are a lot of elites being released so I only buy Flashbacks and NXT anymore. Lots of cool Rollins and Styles elites coming out but I just don't need them.

Yes, i vote scrap all lines except Elites, Basics and Battle Packs. 6 figures per wave each in Basics and Elites, 2 x Flashback, 3 x Current 1 x NXT per case. Battlepacks 1 x Flashback 2 x Current 1 x NXT Scrap all the other lines except the retro line. Go ahead with the Ultimate Edition line and Ringsides Exclusives.

too many exclusives for me. I hate having so many different stores having them. It's a pain to keep track of for a moderate collector of the new stuff like me.

All I buy is the Elite Flashbacks and very selective of those. Also, I do buy a few modern guys in Elite form that I like but not many. I have been busy lately going back and getting some of the older Legends and Flashbacks that I missed. I wish Mattel had more new names of Flashbacks...like Hercules, Ronnie Garvin, Haku, KoKo, Haynes, etc...I still cant believe we are this far into Mattel making figures and we still don't have a Greg Valentine but we have Shark, Virgil, and even Kevin Von Erich. British Bulldogs is another one that amazes me...the Killer Bees would be awesome as well...Mattel still has so many they can make.

I would say its the opposite actually unless you're one of those that feels the need to own everything that comes out, which I dunno why anyone would. As a Flashback only collector, Im not spending nearly as much money was I was on the Classic line because we rarely get things. We get like 2 store exclusive sets twice a year and then maybe a handful of others throughout the year. Whereas with JAKKS I was buying a full series of figures every other month.
