Opening carded figures makes me happy and takes me back to the joys of childhood. It's an experience I pay for and it's always been worth it to me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but at the end of the day it's no different than opening and enjoying an old bottle of wine.

The age of an item doesn't change its primary purpose That's an odd point to make. I guess you walk around museums asking the staff why things are behind the glass and not out being used. Because a 200 year old piec of pottery is akin to a 30 year old toy 'Collectors' just don't want to admit they have toys thus treating them like precious relics when they're pieces of plastic (albeit wonderful pieces of plastic) to be bashed about in a plastic ring

I think it would be great to keep a set of the green card series MOC just simply because I feel like part of the fame of that series lies in the very packaging itself and the bright green standout look that also looks great displayed. But at the end of the day people are free of course to open them or not once they can say they own the figures and enjoy them. What I personally think is pathetic are the people who aren't even fans or have no kind of appreciation for the toys who make moronic vids blow torching/smashing the figures or cutting up dolls etc. just for views. Can't stand crap like that being successful.

Not everyone is in it for the money...who cares what someone does with something they own?? If you spend 200.00 on an MOC Green card and want to open it, so be it. Same thing with sealed video games, its meant to be played, not stored on a shelf to stare at. If the guy opening the green cards wants to display them loose, there's nothing wrong with that. He obviously isn't in the hobby for the $$$.

Longtime lurker; I registered just to post this comment:
As an owner of a complete set of MOC Green Cards I say open all of them you can!
In fact, I would buy carded Greens, open them, and sell the loose figures. Sure, you lose money short-term, but hopefully the long-term gain will be worth it!

My problem is I think taking them out of circulation for moc collectors is a factor. I normally subscribe to the Ryder theory and what Cat is saying about buying it carded to make sure I have one loose mint but I almost always buy beat up cards, or foreign cards with Hasbros but those prices have gone up lately due to that mentality. It definitely depends on the situation but I’ve had figures from time-to-time show up in great condition and I’ve just left them on the card because I couldn’t do it. Then I usually get a second loose one knowing it doesn’t need to be quite as perfect with a moc version hanging on the wall. For me it’s a matter of value, too. There are plenty of mint loose collectors selling on eBay if you’re patient. Sellers with mint figures take 12 pictures because they have nothing to hide. So if you can sort nice pieces from the junk it’s considerably cheaper to just not waste money on carded figures if you’re going to open them. I mean listen, you can buy a life-size statue of Barry Horowitz and put it in your front yard, because Murica, but it doesn’t mean you should. I think the truth is that this guy finds the attention on social media more valuable than the financial loss he’s taking on opening those figures. So this is two of the biggest problems with our society all wrapped into one toy example for me. Typically I agree, I've been trying to get beat up and foreign card Hasbros for my loose mint collection because I was getting sick of buying seemingly mint loose but when they arrive they were more beat up than in the pics. I'm never selling this collection so opening up the Crush didn't feel like I was robbing a MOC collector or anything. Collecting the hasbros again has been a very slow process for me due to waiting for damaged card figs. It's really that with the amount of Evil Crush's I've seen with poor paint (some with broken hair), I wasn't going to wait around to find one on a beat up card. I was lucky to find a mint 1-2-3 Kid loose. I have no idea how I'm gonna get my hands on Dusty though!

I would never open up an LJN card (I say LJN cuz I only collect those) unless the bubble or card was ABSOLUTELY destroyed. Like terrible. Just seems wrong. Same for Hasbro why do people care? They are toys, they are for playing with. Open them and play, don't let them gather dust on a shelf. My hasbro figures are now mine and my kids and they play with them all the time, which guess what...is what TOYS are intended for. I just bought my kids the hasbro winged eagle mint in box. Guess what we did, open it and they play with it. I wanted a mint boxed one so they could have the same enjoyment opening it to play with as I did when I was an 8 year old getting the belt at christmas and the same goes for hasbro figures. I get more enjoyment from their excitement ripping open the package to play with than it would gathering dust on a wall. Kids (who TOYS are made for) don't care about what it will be worth in 30 years, they have the enjoyment of playing with the toy in the then and now There are a lot of us who like to have them in the package and on display. When I walk into my man cave and see the shelves lined with the figures I swell with happiness every time. Reminds me of my childhood, of my beloved dead grandma and an easier time in life. Opening them up feels like it would tarnish that or ruin that feeling. For every 1 reason to open them, there are probably 2 to leave them in the package.

Buts those are your reasons, not everyones Congrats on figuring that out? Did you think I was suggesting everyone likes to display them because it reminds them of their grandma?

You know that people keep items in their packaging so why keep looking for a fight?

For every 1 reason to open them, there are probably 2 to leave them in the package. So in your childhood you had moc Hasbro figures in your wall? No, but I'm also a 40 year old man so I'm not about to sit down and play with action figures on the floor, either. I also not going to pay (on average) $100 for a new action figure, just to open it up. I only collect LJN vintage and I'm not made of money. I'm obviously a collector and you're obviously just trolling. Because a 200 year old piec of pottery is akin to a 30 year old toy 'Collectors' just don't want to admit they have toys thus treating them like precious relics when they're pieces of plastic (albeit wonderful pieces of plastic) to be bashed about in a plastic ring All my friends know I collect (and I'm the only one that does) and I proudly show my stuff on my facebook feed. Has nothing to do with "admitting" anything. Tons of vintage things are put on display, around the world. Everything from gas station stuff, to sports stuff (hockey sticks, jerseys, etc...) and stamps. Most people don't buy autographed sports jerseys to wear around town and then throw it in the washing machine when it gets dirty. Most people don't put collector stamps on envelopes. There's clearly multiple reasons why vintage stuff is kept for display. You're either just being argumentative for the sake of being a jerk, or you're completely clueless in logic and reasoning.
