(Thanks to I’majimcornetteguy for suggesting this!) For those who don’t know, in the early 90’s Jim Herd has suggested (or demanded) that Ric Flair cut his hair and change his gimmick to Spartacus. Stupid idea as Flair left WCW and went to the WWF as the Nature Boy! But what if Flair actually went with Herd’s idea (obviously he’d be drunk) and did shave his hair and did become Spartacus? Would Flair have any success with the gimmick? Would Ted Turner even allow this to happen? How would the WWF be affected with no Flair? Would Spartacus live on alongside other infamous gimmicks like the shock master or even, “THE YETAY!”? What do you think?

Just like Dusty Rhodes got over the polka dots, Flair may have gotten this over. I don't think wwf would have been affected without Ric Flair. Would Turner allow it? He allowed Robocop to show up on a ppv. Flair did have a different theme in 1991 and that may have been what Spartacus' theme was supposed to be. If it didn't work out, I don't think it would have killed his career because he is Ric Flair. He may have gone to wwf after that failed.

it would be disastrously bad and damage one of the only true draws wcw had in the early 90s.
Jim Herd was a dumb dumb

I think with tweaks it would have worked in the WWF. WCW around that time just didn’t know how to do gimmicks. To me they always came across as a poor mans WWF.
I think Vince and co would have gone all out with grand entrances, spectacular robes etc. The only down side is I wouldn’t see him near the title, too gimmicky.

It would've killed his career right then and there. Jim Herd is an idiot.

It would've killed his career right then and there. Jim Herd is an idiot. You think so? I think he is too talented. Ric would have either made it work for a little while or they would have dropped it after it did not work. It would definitely have been a low light in his career. Worse than in 2000 when he got his head shaved. Vince Russo is an idiot too. It's too bad Jim Herd never confirmed in an interview that he had this idea and explained himself. Kevin Sullivan told Herd that Flair changing his gimmick would be like the New York Yankees replacing the number 3 on Babe Ruth's banner. The only reason other than Herd being an idiot for him to come up with this is maybe he felt that Ric Flair had done the same gimmick for almost 20 years at that point, so he felt it was time for a change. If it's not broken, don't fix it!

He wouldn’t have had any success with that gimmick. It would have hurt his and the Horsemen’s popularity and legacy. It wouldn’t have helped WCW either.
