Im hoping im not the only one that detests these campaigns by big corporations. Ive always been suspicious of these "charities". I mean, if finding a cure is simply about raising money then I would of guessed we would be closer to finding more and more cures than is currently the case with the many diseases out there. Is it not the human mind that finds a cure and not money or machines? What are these charities raising money for in specific terms? Heres an interesting article on Komen.
"A quick check of Komen’s tax returns posted on Charity Navigator (a service that evaluates and rates public charities for accountability and transparency) may come as a shock. Founder and CEO Nancy Brinker’s salary was $560,896 in 2013. And in 2012, Komen’s President was paid $606,461.
With a multi-million dollar budget and high profile PR campaigns, Komen has been immensely successful at engaging millions of women to sign up for their annual “races for the cure.” In order to participate in Komen’s popular “three day walk” events, each participant must personally raise over $2,000 for Komen.
Charity Navigator reports that Komen’s annual revenue is well over $200 million. Besides enormous executive salaries, a large percent of this money goes to “education” and “awareness” campaigns. This awareness then leads to fueling the push for more mammograms."
I dont donate to charities, ive never believed in them and not because im a scrooge but because theres too many fingers in the pie so to speak and ultimately cures come from great minds not money. If that was the case all the billionaires out there would simply say heres a billion dollars go find me this cure for my disease.If it takes more than that, well then we are wasting our time because raising billions or trillions, I mean who knows how much exactly it takes.
In summary, raising money to find a cure is a very abstract idea in my opinion as we simply dont know how much money it takes.

I'm not sure that it's legal to pay yourself with charity money, but anyway, I have no faith in charities either, especially when there's no transparency on exactly where all the money goes.

I have no problem with staff being paid, they cant be expected to do it for free, as long as its clear that staff take a salary, fine, like oxfams head is paid about the same as you mentioned above.
The money they raise, I assume, is for the latsst technology etc, buildong costs, staff salary, so yeah, as long as its clear who is paid what, i dont think they can be expected to work for free, and one day, who knows, research paid for by these charities may just save a loved ones life

I don't believe in charities one because all that money that has been donated the world should have found a cure by now. We have advance technology yet people are acting like it's the 90s still. Of course you should pay yourself, but the cure for many diseases should have been found by now. People are just too greedy these days.

Of course you should pay yourself, but the cure for many diseases should have been found by now. People are just too greedy these days. Big Pharma and the medical industry have one guide line to follow: Cure patient at $200,000 or slowly cure/kill for $1M’s. I’ve had family and freinds with cancer that tried holistics doctors and Mexican medicine that were cured and didn’t look so frail compaired to those that went the American route with chemo and radiation. |

I truly believe the cure for many types of cancer, AIDS, and other diseases, has been found.
Big Pharma is just in the way, lining the pockets of the government, and the government keeps it hidden for profits' sake.

And new technology is always being developed, or we'd have had the new iphone back when mobiles were first invented |

Watching, Evolution, I see some organisation called, girl up, has been getting air time on the network. The moment theres a penny to be made their on it like leeches. They cant have a revolution without cashing in on it. Sickening.

Susan g, Salvation Army, goodwill, locks of Love...all sketchy ass organizations.
Companies only do charity crap for tax right offs.
Every time you donate a dollar to March of dimes or some crap at a store, it is donated in the name of the store...thus being a huge right off for companies and not to mention a PR move.
WWE and the Susan g thing is crazy. They probably can mark off every special edition shirt sold as a charitable donation.

Since it was brought up, look up Cancer - The Forbidden Cures, it's a documentary that showcases some of the most successful healers and how savage the American Medical Association is in shutting them down. It has no hyperbole and relays the information without being preachy. A great watch.

The problem I have with charity is that it's never enough. You donate once then suddenly you're expected to keep on giving, then other charities contact you. You go to the shop and there's buckets/collection tins at the checkout, you're at home and people knock on your door asking to support a charity. It's all too much, I have donated and raised money in the past but I generally don't give much nowadays.
