I grew up a staunch WWF fan so not familiar with a lot of cruiserweight stars or matches. I believe WCW was loaded with them but my exposure to them has really only been through the likes of Rey Mysterio and the short lived light heavyweight division in the WWF late 90’s.
So who would you guys say were some of the top stars of this weight division? Also what are some of the greatest CW matches?
There is so much available on the network I really don’t know where to begin!

I'd say either Malenko, Mysterio or Ultimo Dragon.
But Kidman had the best peak by far

My favorites are Malenko and Liger. Always enjoyed watching those two.

Rey Jr. will always be the G.O.A.T Cruiserweight

looking like we’re focusing on wcw cruiserweights, and most have covered the best. I was also a big fan of the first era of lightweight stars - dynamite kid, tiger mask 1, Justin thunder liger, Owen Hart, Pegasus kid/Benoit, Jericho all spring to mind.

I’ve heard about the Dynamite kid v Tiger Mask series would you recommend any other matches to look out for?

1 match I could definitely recommend is Liger vs Pillman from SuperBrawl 92. One of my favorite cruiserweight matches of all time. An absolute classic.

My favorites back in WCW were Jericho Rey ( until he lost the mask and joined the filthy animals) Malenko
But Rey is probably the greatest Cruiserweight.

If we're talking Cruiserweight, I'm assuming we're only discussing the actual guys from WCW who competed for that belt.
For my money, Rey Mysterio Jr. is the greatest and probably the most well-known from that class. He was doing some unbelievable things back then.
Honorable mentions:
- Dean Malenko - Ultimo Dragon - Juventud Guerrera - Chris Jericho
Pretty much everyone from the Cruiserweight roster in WCW/nWo: Revenge. 🤣

Rey Mysterio!
Honestly, no one else comes close to him being the greatest. I am not even a Mysterio fan and I still think he was the greatest cruiser weight ever.

Lots of good memories from the WCW cruiserweights around 1996! Their matches along with n w o and a pretty tough tag team division had all the makings of destroying WWF at the time. When WWF was still going on with silly gimmicks and jobber matches, WCW was giving us (who didn't watch ECW or foreign wrestling) some revolutionary matches with the cruiserweights. Also having Mike Tenay on commentary helped put these guys over even more. IIRC WWF commentary was Vince McMahon, Jerry Lawler and Mr. Perfect without much Jim Ross so any WWF lightweight division would have been totally crapped on by the three commentary guys at the time.

Jericho without question. He elevated the division and turned into something more than just smaller guys putting on great matches.
