I wasn't collecting at the time though I wish I was. This series has the best packaging Mattels ever done. I think it was cancelled for multiple reason, one mainly being it didn't sell too well. Most went to discount stores.

I would love if mattel would bring back the legends style packaging and include it in their elite lines for the flashbacks. I couldn't imagine it would be difficult, they did for Magnum TA in the lost legends series. THIS!

I couldn't imagine it would be difficult, they did for Magnum TA in the lost legends series. They already had the artwork for Magnum’s canceled series 7 figure. The artist who did the Legends packaging is no longer employed (or contracted) by Mattel.

It was simply too soon after Classics.
Most buyers from that era were over 30 years old at the time, and had already spent fortunes accumulating Classic superstars.
It was hard to imagine a situation where we would have the amount of legends that Mattel have made since.
If they held off on Legends for another year or two, announcing a line up of 20-30 different names, it would have been fine.

The line was perfect and they got pretty good legends but the fact that they released a line exclusive for Kmart at the same time there where still some left it hurted the line. Also doing attires that most people don't want it also hurted the line. If they had low on the line and smaller boxes, better attires and balanced the series going out it would had been a hit.
Also the distribution of figures is the store fault not Mattel. Because they are the ones that send the stuff and buy them. I'm a merchandiser for a company and is my duty to order what the store needs and what it sells not what it doesn't.

I honestly think that the myths about putting out a hall of fame variant, the wrong attires, and the distribution, have grown over time.
Series 1, Sht Slaughter was the only really questionable attire for me. Yes, they should have done Legion of Doom, as the colours pop, and these are WWE not NWA figures, but you can't blow your load in 1 series. The Road warrior figures remain the best figures of the duo ever made. If only hawk had his tongue out....
Series 2 was, and is, a great series. Terry Funk....a bit meh.
They weren't distributed....because no one bought them!!
