Storyline? I don’t think they ever explained it on TV. In real lfe Vince didn’t need him anymore to promote in Canada so he was forced out of the company.

I miss when the big figurehead was rarely seen. When Tunney did show up on TV it felt like a big deal. Vince kinda has that now but you still have the commissioner and/or GM on TV every week so there’s always an authority figure present.

Tunney played the part well, helping key storylines move on but not becoming a part of it! Best president since Noriega!!

There was a story line in the WWF Magazine back in the day of Money Inc. bribing him/paying him off. Though, I don't remember any story line happening on TV about it.

He may have been the distinguished President of the World Wrestling Federation, but I blame him for Ricky Steamboat being the Intercontinental Champion. On balance, off balance - doesn't matter!

Vince never really cared for Tunney. I heard after Tunney died nobody from the WWF went to the funeral. I always liked the character. They should have something like that again instead of the lame re-thread of "insert whichever retired wrestler here" or the boring heel authority role.

tunney was kinda boring as an on screen character. i think vince only threw him that bone because he basically gave him eastern canada as soon as he asked for it.

I've heard there was more to getting rid of Tunney's influence over the territory, something about Tunney's habits that got him fired, but he would've been let go regardless. Also I can't recall but there was another story about Bret Hart doing a little politics to get one of his buds to take over operations in Canada?

He's blacklisted and erased from their history like Chris Benoit.

One thing that stuck with me from Tunney's run is his promos. Teleprompter anyone?

Vince McMahon officially closed the Toronto based office on July 12th, 1995 meaning all those employees there were let go, including Tunney. As to why Tunney is never mentioned, here is a list of things that are associated in some way with Jack Tunney:
- The lawsuit surrounding the deposit made on the Skydome and Eddie Tunney trademarked Wrestlemania name in Canada. This cost the WWF money, something McMahon hates. - After the closure of the WWF Canada office, Jack Tunney took the wrestling rights for the Maple Leaf Gardens meaning the WWF could not run shows there, hurting WWF in Canada. - Jack Tunney was going to testify on behalf of Mike Clark in his sexual harassment lawsuit against Terry Garvin which didn't sit well with the company. - Tunney supposedly took money from the WWF to pay off gambling debts and to support his gambling and drinking. Kevin Nash once said in a shoot interview "I told Vince 'You finally got rid of the crook?' Everytime we went to Toronto he'd have a new Cadillac, and our payouts were the sh*ts"
Jack Tunney himself has said that Bret Hart cost him his job with the WWF. Tunney was not a fan of Bret Hart when he was moving up the ladder of the company. Tunney thinks that once the office was behind Bret, Bret used his political power to get Tunney fired and replaced by his friend Carl Demarco. Bret Hart has denied all of this.
