Personally, I believe that they place far too much consideration on what kids will & won’t want these days....if it’s simply assumed that a figure won’t sell to some child then we have no chance in hell of ever getting it....I understand that that’s where the biggest (but not the entire) fan base & money is but to ignore what the older fans want (except for some of the biggest names) is absolutely ridiculous....this is the biggest reason my collecting has dwindled to almost being non existent....I’ve made this point here before & others don’t agree with it but c’mon....how else do u explain the repeated requests for older wrestlers that go ignored time after time??

Flashback collectors arent ignored, but of course we get less figures than they make for kids, its proportionate, I dont mind that they make so many Cena and Reigns, because the money they make pays for our flashbacks

Now I understand that Mattel isn’t like Jakks was in making figures who aren’t signed to some legends deal or something & that’s too bad for those of us who would love to see teams like the Steiner Brothers, the Midnight Express & the Rock & Roll Express.... however, I’ve also seen some make the comment that these guys won’t sell but at the same time they’re making figures of others like the Red Rooster....I’m sorry but if this new generation knows enough about the history of wrestling to want to buy a Red Rooster figure then I’m damn sure they’d buy any of the teams I just listed....and if the argument is about attires and/or uniqueness drawing a kids attention....any of the ones I named had more than enough of both to attract the attention of a youngster.

Over saturation and a poor television product have hurt consumer interest. I couldn’t of said it better myself. How many time can you see Lashley vs Elias before you wanna vomit? 🤢🤮

The hottest figure right now is Harley Race. Followed by Bob Backlund and HOC Ultimate Warrior. That does not say much for the current product! Them being hot on an Internet forum doesn't equate to everyone in real life

The primary contributor is the poor television product. If the characters aren't interesting or popular, why should anyone want a figure of them?
As much as some might say it doesn't matter, I still believe the alteration to the articulation cheapened the basics and the two packs. They just don't look as good as they used to.
The Elite assortments actually have a good mix of current talent. Can't say anyone is overproduced. It just goes back to the lack of interest in WWE in general.
I mean even WWE 2k19 has been reduced 50% just months after being released. They can't give that thing away. The interest is buzz is nowhere to be seen.
I went from buy probably 20 figures per year down to about 4-5 it seems. I am not even a flashback collector like most here, I want to enjoy the current product, but WWE has made it impossible.
Example: Elias is pretty cool lately, but still he doesn't really do anything. Why should I want a figure of him?

Unless they sign some new names to legends deals I don't see myself buying as much moving forward. Also the figures shouldn't be this much to work to find and buy. I shouldn't have to refresh a page a million times to find a figure I need lol or drive to 10 different Walmart's or whatever store.

I think more people are losing interest. It’s really the same guys made over and over. How many of each guy can someone want? I lost interest in the flashbacks and really haven’t bought much at all

I can only speak for myself and I haven’t bought a figure in months and don’t really plan on buying anything anytime soon. I really wanted Harley Race but as a Canadian collector I am sick and tired of eBay prices for these exclusives. Also the fact that I highly doubt we will ever get figures like capt Lou, dynamite kid, dream team beefcake and other figures from the 80s which really was the only time I really cared about wrestling. I’m at the point now where I’m pretty much done searching for these exclusive figures online which is the only way to get them so I guess I’m out for now.

I have been on a multi-year hiatus from collecting and have recently gotten back in. Is it just my opinion or has collecting interest dwindled? I see far less trades on Facebook groups and even in the classifieds here. It seems less people collect today than just a few years ago. Am I crazy in that assumption? I feel like some of the best figures for collectors seem to be funneling through the store exclusive lines. Wrestling fans in the older/collector demographic aren’t really big into the current product, their interest lean more towards flashbacks or NXT which is closest thing to RoH. Yet the majority of those stars getting funneled through store exclusives where distribution and scalpers have been a nightmare. Honestly if Mattel would also get WalMart or Target to sell the exclusives online or also through Ringside then it wouldn’t be a problem.

I toy hunt 4-5 times a week at my local Walmart or Target. I cannot recall the last time a young child was even looking at figures. No joke!

Wasn't Mattel's WWE figure number one in 2017? The answer is yes. Yes they were.

Straight re-releases killed the hardcore collectors interest. No more need to buy new figures instantly, just wait for sales or another future re-re-release.

Yeah, I don't really understand the logic here. I presume the thinking here is that they want foot traffic in their stores but their crappy distribution of these exclusives makes going to the store less desirable because you can't find these very easily.

I still holding out a tiny bit of hope that flashback series 3 might hit in the new year, if it does I will be snatching up a Steamboat fig and then calling it a day. I have a few remaining wants on my wish list but like you I doubt very much that any of them will be made which is another reason why I am done collecting (difficulty finding these figures is the other reason). We can't even get a Greg Valentine figure- he was a staple of the Golden era, if he is too niche for Mattel then so is Capt. Lou, Haku, Hercules, etc. Jakks never made The Dream Team so I don't know why you think Mattel would make them?! Steve mentioned in the online Q&A he did around Comic Con in the summer that if Mattel ever had the rights to make Greg Valentine they would make a singles run version (with hearts robe) and a Rhythm & Blues version. There was no mention of Dream Team which I don't understand because they were tag champs, that time period was arguably a high point for both Valentine & Beefcake?!
