I think it's simply because Mattel have had the licence for so long now, most fans and collectors already have the vast majority of figures they want.

Part of the problem is them making everything exclusive and stores not ordering like fan central series 2 and Harley race.

Straight re-releases killed the hardcore collectors interest. No more need to buy new figures instantly, just wait for sales or another future re-re-release. This

I think people having difficulty finding figures based on their exclusives, has made people care less.

Want to see the hottest trending figures? Check out Ebay under sold items, priced highest first.
The illusion that this line is on fire with kids is funny, kids are playing with tech more each year.

Well hardcore collectors arent buying up all the Cena, Reigns, Rollins, Styles figures are they, if kids werent playing with figures, the line would be dead, it cannot exist without the huge kids market

Not as huge as in previous decades good sir, it's a dwindling industry in regards to kids. They are still there and the primary focus, but collectors are not the fringe group they were during 1995's Star Wars Power of the Force line. We are way more important to the bottom line than you seem to acknowledge. Again the secondary market tells us what's truly "hot".

I think people having difficulty finding figures based on their exclusives, has made people care less. my thoughts exactly people want fan central 2 and flashback 3 but can’t find what stores don’t get, Nxt 4 will unfortunately probably be the same way.

The major reason you don't see a lot of activity in the classified or facebook groups would be the fact that most members have the majority of the stuff people are trying to get rid of. No one wants AJ Styles first Elite figure because so many have been released since then, yet people are willing to take as low as 10 dollar shipped for him and still no one bites. The only thing you'll see get a lot of responses to are first run DM/EG and Legends. Every once in a while a Flashback Elite will pop up that someone needs (Mostly older Elite flashbacks from the 12-30's). If the average age of people that used these boards here or facebook was younger, you might see those common elites actually move.
I personally don't purchase as much but keep up with the Mattel line more so now than in the past. I stopped collecting Mattels after Legends were cancelled. I didn't get back into it until I saw the Diesel Elite at K Mart. And Mattel did a good job of having on avaerage at least 1 flashback per main Elite line wave until I think the 50's-60's range. But I didn't start really keeping up with Mattel releases again until the Hall of Fame line was announced because it was the closest we would get to the Legends line. Once Hall of Fame series 1 was announced I looked back at the older Elites and picked the ones I had missed.

Don't forget all the "popular" characters have been made ad nauseam. There just isn't much left that's a must buy. The Ultimate line seems intriguing but I dunno...

As annoying as these topics usually are, it is very humorous listening to a bunch of "adults" pretend to know about toy popularity based on their Walmart shelves and Ebay listings. Especially considering Mattel's WWE toy line was number one last year and yet people are still acting like the line is dying. reminder to those that prefer facts

It may have been number one last year but that doesn't mean its still in top spot this year. I would be very shocked if it were still the top selling action figure line, especially with the declining viewership of the current product and the fact that distribution problems continue to plague this line at retail where arguably the majority of its sales come from.

Pretty sure the years not over yet. So no, nobody does. But this article came out in February of this year. So not quite a year.

I would be very shocked if it were still the top selling action figure line, especially with the declining viewership of the current product and the fact that distribution problems continue to plague this line at retail where arguably the majority of its sales come from. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. WWE was the top selling figure line in volume and has consistently been called out as a high performing brand in Mattel's quarterly reports, but that is not the same as being the top grossing line. Thousands upon thousands of cases were sold at discount retailers due to the backlog at retail in 2016. It was also a year where Star Wars didn't do well, Marvel had a lighter schedule, and DC's tentpole blockbuster hugely underperformed, all of which impact toy sales. It's still a strong brand with good crossover appeal between kids and adult collectors. But the high number of line cancellations and rebrands and inconsistent availability at top brick and mortar retailers is most definitely a red flag. It's not doom and gloom like some people here make it out to be. But with the license renewal period coming up soon, 2018 is almost certainly going to be a make or break year for the line's long term future.

Do you think you are seeing less trades & classified maybe because people are asking way to much for figures. Some people are delusional in what they think their so called “fair prices” are. Reading about the FB Race I wanted to see what people were asking for on-line. I saw on eBay someone asking $130 for one with the crown blocking his face. Who is going to spend that on a figure they don’t even know if his face is painted correctly!? I think even with the Toy Industry losing one of if not their biggest customer in TRU and more kids playing on their parents phones and tablets instead of toys the wwe line is going strong.
I personally think the WWE line is doing better than ML, SW and certainly their DC lines. I see the WWE core lines (Basic & Elites) constantly getting restocked every month or so with new product. ML would be next although once the popular figures in the set go the rest sit forever. Star Wars with the exception of the original trilogy I see the same figures sitting on the pegs for months if not the year before they eventually get put on clearance and then some move.

The final sales for 2018 aren't out yet. But the point remains, they were the top selling line last year, and yet people are acting like Mattel's WWE line is dead. It is not.
