It's almost 3am where I'm at. I'm at work and bored af. Figured I'd start another topic and let me clarify the topic. There's been many a time where I scoop up some figs now and then from retail STRAIGHT from the sealed case and they've been opened and resealed. I imagine it's pretty much Quality Control opening final product and checking for errors but the question is for you MOC collectors. Do you still consider the figure factory sealed when QC already opened it and re-taped it?

I have never seen or heard of this, but if its been opened and put back, it 100% is not MISB

That ain't QC, that's someone simply retaping and returning a bad paint app/defective figure. I see that every once in a while.

I've only noticed it a couple times with Mattel WWE. The figures were pulled from a sealed case and the tape matched the factory. Definitely not a return.
Is double taping happening more often because this same topic was brought up this week on a Marvel Legends board? I first heard about it years ago when Transformers collectors were losing their crap about their imported MP cars having a second piece of tape.

This is the only figure board I frequent but I dont buy enough ML to judge (actually didnt know it's an issue with ML as well) but I've noticed on WWE figs much more lately. I've also seen it on the first run of G1 Reissue Hot Rod figures

Funny you guys bring up marvel legends. Last week I was about to buy a Bishop figure, when I noticed the double tape. The figure itself looked used and the paint apps were terrible. I'm convinced someone returned it because the second layer of tape was uneven, and the bottom piece appeared to have been sliced with a razor.

I can’t say I’ve ever noticed. I can’t say I’ve ever really looked either. I’m sure I will now tho cause it’s in my head. I’m not terribly strict on MOC as far as some little things are concerned, so if everything looked fine with the figure and the box with double tape then it’s fine for me.

Haha, just one more thing that would drive me insane had I been a fan of MIB collecting.

Being a MOC collector has be equal parts frustrating and rewarding. Just yesterday I received E63 Kane from wwe.com and it had no tape at all. Maybe it was peeled off by someone in the warehouse but it was pretty odd opening the box and seeing that.

Honestly I can't even imagine a scenario where somebody at the mattel factory is looking at figs after they are boxed, noticing mistakes, and stopping them from going out until they correct them. The odds of me noticing and extra piece of tape are even less likely than this QC fantasy lol.

I assume the OP is referring to a sealed case, not the individual figure’s box.

Lol I had the same reaction. I’ve never heard it put this way before. Well to be fair it’s correct. People sound like mindless robots calling everything MOC. If it’s in a box it’s probably not on a “card.” MOC is for Basics and retros. MISB is for elites and such. Then there’s mint on mint card(MOMC) etc

And obviously, an opened package is an opened package. It doesn’t matter who, when or why it was opened.
