Aldo Montoya
The ''Portuguese Man O'War'' would make his debut in the Federation during an episode of Raw in November 94 to very little fan fair(reminiscent of Max Moon) in which he would defeat longtime jobber the Brooklyn Brawler. From there he would appear in the Rumble that January and actually last nearly 15 minutes before being eliminated eventual winner Shawn Michaels. The 95 Rumble is bad gimmick heaven so he definitely fit in during that match that's for sure.
Biggest highlight of the gimmicks run was his brief feud that Spring against IC Champ Jeff Jarrett in which he would come up short in his quest in becoming champ. For the rest of 95 he pretty much went to jobber status which would pretty much follow him for the rest of his tenure here. In 96 he was in the Rumble again but this time around he didn't last long before being eliminated by Tatanka. That Spring he would be one of the early victims of a new character in the WWF named Mankind. His last big moment in the company came that Summer as he defeated Jerry Lawler but the King would get his revenge the following week by not only defeating em but also pouring whiskey down his throat. With all his losses building up so did his frustration in real life so with that by the time 97 rolled around the WWF would send him packing to ECW and with that was the end of good ol' Aldo.
Overall even though he was friends with the Kliq during the beginning, no way was this gimmick not doomed to fail. I mean after all he was wearing a jockstrap on his head for God sake.

The Portugese Man O War gimmick had jobber written all over it, although I had no idea it was PJ Walker under the mask until I started reading wrestling news on the internet in 1996. The only other big win I can remember him getting was against Stone Cold Steve Austin, when Austin didnt feel like wrestling him and forfeited the match, but still beat him down afterwards. I was so happy to see him find success in ECW. What Paul Heyman did was...just incredible.

His debut saw Ted Dibiase trying to recruit him to the corporation but nothing ever came of that.

Either Akeem or Dusty, no vote. They both played their character to perfection. Either guy could have walked at the idea but put 110% into the gimmick and it brought them each a lot of fame. Dusty was already famous but the year and a half he did the polka dots stands out to a lot of people, then and now. Akeem couldn't have been further from the One Man Gang but it probably brought him his most fame and I think he enjoyed it, too. Akeem is like a Kamala to me, interesting gimmick but played by a guy who didn't stick around a promotion too long. I think his 3 years with WWF was the longest.

Looks like polka Dusty it is. To give you a little preview, here's a vignette that aired during the Spring of 89...
''You can trust your car to the man that wears the star!!''

I started this thread back on New Year's day and here we are nearly 3 months later and 17 gimmicks covered! I'm glad you Humanoids are enjoying this as much as I am.
Makes me happy my gimmick and PPV/show review threads are a staple here in the classic section. Long live old school wrestling!
