SSlam that year had 7 matches I believe. I agree they easily could've added it to the card to make it 8.Since like I said they feuded pretty much all Summer.

I'm surprised Lex is winning. He's like 123 Kid in that we pretty much hear about him very often. Waylon Mercy has a cult following so I'm surprised he's not winning. It's really a shame he didn't stay very long after the injury. Despite being in WWF and WCW for years Mercy may have been the most famous he would ever be if he stayed a while. He could have also just stuck around a mouthpiece for someone or did an interview segment but I think he was burned out.

Narcissist Lex Luger
At the Royal Rumble 1993, Bobby Heenan would unveil the man he's been bragging for a good few weeks prior to the event.Lex would come out and for a good few minutes would pose in front of a bunch of mirrors much to the delight of the female fans in attendance. It was an over the top debut but it fit the gimmick to a tee. His first target would be Mr. Perfect who he would face at that years Mania. The match was passable but nothing beyond that. He would win after hitting em with his loaded forearm which was a signature part of this gimmick. Around this time he would also start a feud with Bret Hart when he would cheap shot him at the WrestleMania brunch prior the event. They would tease the feud after Mania but nothing really ever came of it and it was soon dropped.I never could understand why this was dropped after they went through the trouble of filming the angle at the brunch and even mentioned it on commentary at Mania itself.
That Spring they ran an angle in which President Jack '' on the take' Tunney would threaten action on Luger if he didn't cover up his elbow. He would wear a elbow pad but still would knock out ham n eggers post match. His next big outing would take place at the KOTR that year in which he would face Tatanka in a match between two guys who were undefeated. The match would end in a draw but afterwards Narcissist would nail The Native American with his forearm. His last Narcissist appearance would come on Superstars right before the July 4th Intrepid event as his gimmick would change completely out of nowhere as he would go from a Narcissist to an All American babyface where he would slam Yokozuna.
Overall....This gimmick had so much potential IMO but with Vince panicking over losing Hogan he had to find his next big babyface and we all saw how that went.He easily could've had a good run as IC champ or even World champ with this gimmick if they played their cards right. What could've been...Shame.

If I remember correctly, Heenan called him "Narcissus" in his promos before he made his debut. Not sure if that was a mistake by Heenan, or if they gave him a name change right before he showed up. And I always heard that they never gave Lex a title run because he drunkenly bragged to a bunch of people in a bar that he was winning the title at SummerSlam.

Narcissist was the better Lex Luger WWF gimmick out of the 2. I recall Luger was originally signed to the WBF but back then, even I knew his bodybuilding wasnt on the level of the WBF Bodystars. I was at the USS Intrepid for the Yokozuna Body Slam Challenged when he showed up at the end and slammed Yokozuna.

I always found it weird how that same weekend he was the Narcissist on Superstars and then out of the blue he's this big All American babyface slamming Yoko all in that one weekend.Talk about an outta nowhere turn.

I really liked the Narcissist gimmick, I think it fit Luger perfectly - it was just a more gimmicked version of his total package persona from WCW. I thought his interview with Heenan and Monsoon at WM8 was his best interview ever. I think he could have been a World Champion, I wonder if they were going to have him beat Bret at Summer Slam for the title then have Bret win it back at Rumble or Mania the following year - it seemed like they were gearing up for a big feud between him and Bret. Shame they didn't give him more time with the gimmick.
