Ok settle down humanoids. Keep it up and the guys with the white coats and net will be after ya. Just some harmless banter between a grumpy old man and a guy who speaks French. No harm intended. Just Gorilla quotes from me!! Haha

And I bet it takes you an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes. This place is going bananas! Or as Pat Patterson would say, "Dis place is going banana!"

Red Rooster
Terry Taylor joined the WWF during the Summer of 88. When he first debuted he just went by his real name but that all changed by the Fall as on an edition of the Brother Love show Bobby Heenan introduced his newest family member....The Red Rooster. His first big match came at the SSeries that year as a member of Team Twin Towers but was the first man to go no long into the match by Randy Savage. As 1988 came to a close Bobby Heenan quickly became frustrated with latest find as in his mind he wasn't living up to his potential.
The blowup between the two happened on an episode of SNME in early 89 as the Rooster fought Tito Santana. Bobby the whole match kept screaming at Rooster all match to stay focused and get the W. Tito would get the win and after the match it all boiled over. Heenan would slap Rooster leading to Rooster responding with an attack of his own. Just weeks later on PTW we would get a face to face confrontation between the two which lead to the debut of the Brooklyn Brawler in a classic moment in the shows history. Hell even Gorilla takes a bump!
This would all lead to a match between Heenan and the Rooster at WM V in which Rooster made short work of the Brain. In defense of Heenan he was injured by Warrior prior to the match that night. After Mania he would feud with the Brawler for a little bit. By the Summer he really did nothing of note but he did get booked for the SSlam card that year as he fought Mr. Perfect. The match was cut short early on as Rooster legit got hurt early in the match leading to a Perfect win. His last big match of 89 came at the SSeries as he was apart of the Dream Team as they fought the Enforcers. He was eliminated by the Big Boss Man.
By 1990 the gimmick was on his last legs as his last big appearance came at the Rumble that year.He was quickly eliminated by Andre the Giant. He would stay in the company until the Summer that year before he was released.
I've always been a fan Terry Taylors in ring work but man he couldn't catch a break gimmick wise. The Rooster being his most infamous gimmick(for all the wrong reasons). His only big feud was with Heenan and after that he really did nothing of note of for the rest of his 1st WWF run. He would return to the WWF briefly in 1992 as ''Terrific'' Terry Taylor but that's another convo for another time.

The gimmick killed Terry Taylor's career.

Nice, I've never seen that video before. Nice start for Brawler. As for the Rooster, he was a good wrestler but that was a terrible gimmick. He had some good matches with Mr. Perfect but other than that I don't remember much about the character other than the PPV's he was on. I really liked his Terrific and/or Terrible Terry Taylor gimmick in WCW, I think if they would have done that gimmick in the WWF Taylor would have faired better. Not sure he would have ever risen above mid-card matches but he could have had some good matches with IC champions like Perfect or Bret or even later in 1992/93 with Michaels. I watched/listened to the Prichard podcast about the Rooster gimmick and the way Prichard stated it was that Terry took the gimmick to literal and that they didn't specifically mean for him to dress as a rooster. Vince described the character as the "cock-of-the-walk" who didn't think he had a flaw, that's where the rooster name came from. Had they dressed him in suits and ties, like DiBiase and Flair, but still went with the Red Rooster name it may have been better.

The rooster was one of those gimmicks that was never going to go anywhere. It’s a shame because I always thought that Taylor was a good hand in the ring. I heard that Curt Hennig was originally considered for the role. If true he dodged a bullet there.
Favourite memory would be the WM5 match against the weasel, erm I mean Brain!! I loved how Ventura stuck up for Heenan, implying how he was brave for even entering the ring.

I can't imagine Henning being the Red Rooster. I may be wrong but I heard or read somewhere about it. Memory isn’t the greatest though.

It would've fitted more if they gave em the ''Terrific'' name during his 1st stint. He could've been just like how he was during his NWA run, an arrogant heel in a robe. He definitely would've had a longer run as a Heenan Family member.
But when you give em the name ''Red Rooster'' yeah your shelf life is extremely low.

I know Taylor was supposed to be Mr Perfect, but never heard Henning was going to be the Red Rooster.

Taylor could've pulled off the Perfect gimmick in ring wise but he was terrible at promos so that would've hurt em right there.

Bruce Prichard talked about this on his podcast, Rooster was never supposed to be Mr. Perfect or vice versa. This got started because Taylor said in a shoot video that he could of had the Perfect gimmick because they were entering the company at the same time. However, Prichard said that wasn't the case, that the WWF didn't have ready made gimmicks that they were just handing out to people - at least at that time. Hennig got the Perfect gimmick because when he met with Vince and Vince asked Curt to describe himself Curt talked about how good he was at sports, that he could make hole's in one and bullseye's at darts, etc. and Vince said you're perfect at everything and that's kind-of how the gimmick came about. And Taylor got the Rooster gimmick because when he met with Vince he seemed very arrogant about everything so Vince described him as the cock-of-the-walk. Prichard also said that Taylor took the gimmick too literal and that he didn't actually have to be an actual rooster. At least that's what Prichard said on his podcast.
EDIT: here is the podcast, my memory got it wrong, apparently it was Pat Patterson who said he was Perfect. Talk about this topic starts at 3:28.

It's no wonder he was turned babyface not long into his run. A heel with a rooster gimmick? lol nobody could take that seriously.

I just added the podcast of the Rooster/Perfect gimmick decision to my post.

Terry Taylor will always be known for the 18 months he spent as Red Rooster rather than the 18 years he wrestled as Terry Taylor. Even when he returned to the WWF back in 1992 as Terrific Terry Taylor, people still saw him as the Red Rooster. The guy was a pretty good technical wrestler though and he was using the Chickenwing armlock and Scorpion Deathlock before those moves were popular.

Big reason being they gave em the same theme song just without the rooster sounds.Poor guy couldn't get away from that nightmare.

Red Rooster actually wasn't much worse than Taylor Made Man.
