West Texas RednecksThe origins of this group would start in early 99 as Curt Hennig and Barry Windham would win the then vacant Tag Titles at SuperBrawl. The reign didnt last long as they would lose em the following month at Uncensored but this was only the beginning for these two. They would officially form that Summer with Barry's brother Kendall and Bobby Duncam Jr. who had a brief babyface run in late 98 and a feud with Chris Jericho but was pretty much off TV following it.Their main feud of the run here was against another new group in the form of the No Limit Soldiers led by popular rapper at the time Master P.The group would consist of known names like Rey Myesterio,Konan and Brad Armstrong plus the less experienced in guys like Chase Tatum and Swoll. The feud got going when on Nitro that June when Curt Hennig tried to gift Mr. P with a cowboy only for him to destroy it along with throwing cake in his face. How are these guys the babyfaces??!!They would meet at GAB with the Soldiers picking up the win.Following this though is the most infamous time of the Rednecks run as they would debut a new song entitled ''Rap is Crap''. They plugged this to death on TV with them showing the music video on Nitro and Thunder plus they even did a live concert as well. This was all apart of their ''Rap is Crap World Tour''. They would continue the feud against NLS with an elimination set for BATB that July in which once again they would fail to defeat their foes. This would end the feud as following this their next target would be against another new group in the company named the Revolution which consisted of Shane Douglas,Perry Saturn,Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko with Asya as their manager. The big match in this feud happened at Road Wild which once again their PPV losing streak continued as they lost in a six man tag.Things would turn around later that month on Nitro as the Windham brothers would defeat Harlem Heat (who just reunited during this time) for the tag titles. At this point Duncam was taking off TV due to injuries.Things would keep going downhill as they would drop the belts back to Harlem Heat in September at Fall Brawl. They would try to add ''Curly Bill'' aka Virgil to the group but that didnt do much. The end of the group would come with Barry and Kendall leaving the company by years end with Curt entering the ''Powers That Be'' angle. Bobby Duncam Jr. never returned to TV as sadly he would pass away in early 2000 due to an overdose at the very young age of 34. Overall...While I was never really into country music,I loathed rap music so I instantly sided with this group for that reason. Hennig being in my top 5 of all time and me being a Barry Windham fan helped as well.Rap is Crap is a song I'm proud to say is on my Ipod. What are your memories/thoughts of the West Texas Rednecks? I loved the Rap is Crap song!
To me they were the baby faces in the feud with the no limit soldiers. Man did Swole suck and he was paid 400,000 a year! Rey Mysterio was also in the group. The worst period of his career bar none!
The highlight of what was an otherwise garbage Great American Bash 99 was Curt Henning breaking Master P’s cd and the latter acting like an idiot afterwards.

WCW a southern wrestling company makes WTR the heels and NLS the faces. 21 years later and I'm still scratching my damn head.

I read somewhere that the West Texas Rednecks was Curt Hennig's favorite gimmick that he had because in real life, he was a middle America guy who likes hunting, fishing, drives a pickup truck and listens to country music. I also hate rap, so of course I sided with the Rednecks even though the whole feud was stupid.

Even though I liked rap better than country back then I favored Curt’s group over the rappers. Today I don’t like rap, but do appreciate country though I’m not an avid listener.

Well, this was in the days before John Cena got a rap gimmick over in wrestling.
