I just saw this and the first thing I did was yell “ah dammit”. Mean Gene was a legend. This sucks. When I saw it I just froze with grief. This one is up there with Bobby and Gorilla for me. This really sucks.

Mean Gene was the absolute best! When I think of Mean Gene I picture an interview with Hulk Hogan right before a big match and I also think of Mean Gene standing at the entrance way of A WCW ppv interviewing Ric Flair. He was involved in soo many big PPVs and was someone you can close your eyes and remember entire interviews. I also loved how Mean Gene would call out the heels and be a face compares to 99% of the other backstage personalities over the years who just played the confused idiot. Sad day for wresting fans. Mean Gene gave us fans a lot to remember. Thank You Mean Gene

🥺 ... R.I.P. Gene Okerlund
You gave this world way more than it deserved.
Bobby and Gene are now a team again. Heaven is going to be an amazing place.
We’ll miss you down here on this earth.
Rest easy, Gene.

I remember hearing the voice of Mean Gene on WWF shows in the late 80s and that’s some of my earliest memories. Along with Savage and Warrior who have also passed. Didn’t matter if it was WWF or wCw I always liked Mean Gene and he’ll always be someone I remember for the rest of my life. Although I never met him personally I have a good feeling that he was a good man and he will be missed by many. Thank you for all the memories Gene!

Absolutely devastated, and I know people say that, and they really aren't, but I am, this man is such a huge part of my younger life, he is as much an icon of the WWF as Hogan, Warrior, Macho Man, I am truly feeling this, gutted

Another one that truly hurts...so many memories with him involved between WWF & WCW for me, personally, including his closing interview with Ric Flair following the 1992 Royal Rumble match, my first true exposure to the world of pro wrestling.
Truly one of the best. R.I.P. Gene. 😢

for years i always thought it was "Mene Gene" not "Mean Gene"....i dont know why but just one of those things....my kid brain processed differently
RIP to another voice of my childhood. Gene was a standup guy, all around talent and one of the greats. I really hope they do something nice on RAW this coming week.
Its so incredibly sad to know that Gorilla, Bobby and now Gene are all doing Wrestling Challenge in the heavens, with the occasional Lord Alfred Hayes cameo.

He was one of the good ones. Sadly, I have felt this creeping in since like 2008. Dude lived far longer than I expected. Rest easy.

Started off my day hearing about this leaving for work. Sad day. I've literally had the words: "Look at all of this crap in this ring!" in my head all day. RIP

"Mean Gene" was just as important as the wrestlers. Gene gave every interview his all and never "phoned it in". When he would do the PPV event center as well as spot specific interviews, Gene would make every match sound like a main event. Who else would be able to get you pumped for a Virgil vs Nailz match!?!?!
In a land of giants, "Mean Gene" was a King at what he did.
Thank you for the memories Gene and thank you for your interviews that made me fall in love with this sport when I was a kid.
I can just see the line with Bobby, Gorilla, Lord Alfred, Arnie Skaaland, Roddy and Macho, Dusty, Andre and the list goes on and on waiting to hug Gene.

Greatest interviewer of all time. Hard to decide whose greeting to Mean Gene was better, Hulk Hogan's ("WELL YOU KNOW SOMETHING, MEAN GENE...") or Ric Flair's ("MEEEEEEAAAAAANNNNNN BAH GAWD WHOOOOOO GENE!"). I will always remember the number 1-900-909-9900. RIP
