IMO? the loudest pop ever...….its absolutely insane. Austin hadn't been out for ages or anything. Its a testament to his popularity and the effin HEAT the McMahons had.....incredible.
An incredibly important night because of what happened in WCW too....the "Fingerpoke of Doom".....they NEVER recovered.

I remember this Raw like it was yesterday. Definitely the biggest pop in company history.
And to think this was a pre-taped episode but man you could tell that pop was LEGIT!

What a reaction. It’s sad to think but I doubt a wrestler/superstar will ever provoke such a response from the crowd again.

The weird thing is in that pop was that Austin's music made the fans go crazy, as loud as they could go, and then when Foley pins Rock for the WWE Title 30 seconds later, the pop somehow got louder. It was like the fans who were screaming as loud as they could, somehow found the energy to put that up higher! Just totally awesome!
It's stuff like this that shows that story lines and angles work more in wrestling than wrestling a 30 minute match. Sure, we see some amazing wrestling in NXT at the Takeover shows, but I have yet to hear a pop like that at those shows!

Wasn't this the episode where Schiavone on Nitro said that Mick Foley was going to be the New WWF Champion and a lot of fans changed the channel from Nitro to Raw to see it happen?

What made this even more great was that the crowd got louder when Foley got the pinfall. It was insane.

I was 11 and will never forget it. When it comes to the loudest pops in wrestling history, this is easily featured on that Mount Rushmore.

it’s impossible to not get goosebumps watching that.
I can only hope wrestling returns to that level of glory again.

What was that? I can't hear you over this pop!
Seriously though, I remember watching this as a kid and I was jumping up and down too when I heard the glass shatters. Vince's reaction, Rock selling the chair shot like he's dead and then the crowd pops again when Foley wins the title. Just an amazing moment in history.

it’s impossible to not get goosebumps watching that. I can only hope wrestling returns to that level of glory again. True story...….. When Vinnie is throwing a fit at ringside and Austin is walking away....then Austin turns and fires his cap at him.....oh man what a moment....I mark the eff out for that EVERYTIME I see it. The whole scenario was perfect booking. The crowd was delighted to see Austin turn up to prevent the injustice but it didn't take the shine offa Foleys victory at all. All the main players in WWF at the time are present too brawling.

I watched both Raw and Nitro from 1/4/99 last night. Man did Nitro suck and man how awesome Raw was! No wonder a little over 2 years later Raw won the war! One thing I hated about the raw episode though was the Terri miscarriage angle. Idiot Russo defends it to this day saying "It's a television show bro" 😑 Of course on Nitro it was the infamous finger poke of doom that spelled wcw's haha

I just watched the Thunder after the fingerpoke... It was a Good episode that built to the next Nitro.
They could have recovered from the fingerpoke... But just wouldn't give the fans what they wanted.
It was clear the nWo was DONE with fans when Flair beat Bischoff on Nitro. People wanted to see Hogan, Nash etc get theirs after the FOD.
Just didn't happen......

I'd also like to point out that this took place at a time when fans were content to actively support the product in spite of the at times pure garbage being broadcast. These days everyone is too cynical and entitled to invest this much into something.
