I'm 17 trying to be a pro-wrestling journalist. So, I thought I'd post about match quality because many of us fans look for great matches?? Which WWE matches should've been 5 stars in your opinion? I'll start:
'Taker/ HBK: 'Mania XXV & XXVI
'Taker/ Triple H: 'Mania XXVIII
HBK/Kurt:'Mania 21
TLC II: 'Mania X-Seven
Angle/Benoit: Royal Rumble '03
Cena/ Styles: Royal Rumble 2017

If you mean 5 stars from Meltzer: - Shawn-Razor - Mania X - Bret-Owen - SummerSlam 94 - Bret-Austin - Mania 13 - Shawn-Taker - In Your House: Bad Blood - CM Punk - Cena - TLC 2011 That is all of them. And just for those wondering NWA/JCP had seven 5 star rated matches between 1986-1989, six of them included Ric Flair. WCW has two matches featuring there wrestlers with 5 Stars (WrestlerWar 91 & 92 War Games matches). WCW technically has another 5 star rated match on a card but it was the When World Collide tag match and the event was a AAA card but produced by WCW so because the talent in the match were AAA, I wouldn't count this as a WCW match. |

Savage vs Warrior at WrestleMania VII. That would be on my list as well, great story telling, don't remember seeing any botches or missed spots, still to this day probably my 2nd favorite match of all-time behind Austin/Bret @ Mania 13. For the list, I'll add Savage vs Steamboat at Mania 3, great match and I think this was the match that coined (or started) the phrase "stole the show". Other Matches I would add to the list, Bret vs Perfect SSlam 91 and Bret vs Bulldog SSlam 92. Not sure if these are 5 star, but close in my opinion, Savage vs Flair and Bret vs Piper at Mania 8. |

I'll never give Bulldog vs Bret at Summerslam 92 5 stars because it was a one man show. Bret had to carry Smiths drugged up pilled out ass through the match. Vince couldn't wait to get he IC strap off him after he pissed on his trust like that.

Bret vs 123 Kid.
Not sure about 5 stars,but Bret vs Doink was also good.
Austin vs Bret WM13.
Flair gave a friggin' 10 star performance in the '92 Rumble.

I think that's why I give it a 5-star rating, one because of Bret's performance, and two, because of how bad Davey was and the match still turned out amazing. |

I didn't watch much WWF in 1998 or beyond that so I really can't rate that stuff. Unless your name was Savage/Steamboat/Dynamite, you didn't see much beyond a four star match in the WWF during the golden era. The story for Hogan-Savage building up to Mania 5 was 5 Stars on it own but the match just didn't stand out to me. And as much as I want to give Dynamite Vs Savage a 5 Star from the wrestling classic, I know that it isn't. I still love the ending though. I wish that Savage and Dynamite got more time.

Love your choices. That Tito vs Perfect match was excellent, completely forgot about that one, a very underrated match in IC title history. Loved the Perfect/Bret match at KotR 93, it doesn't get the fan fare like their SummerSlam 91 match but it was a tremendous match - I even liked the interview segment just before the match when they talked about their dads. Marty vs Shawn and Bret vs the 123 Kid are two of the best matches on Raw in its early years when matches really didn't get a lot of time to be good. Both excellent. Not sure I would give the Bret vs. Diesel match a 5-star but definitely 4-star, I actually liked all 4 of their PPV matches, they really worked well together. I am a little surprised that Shawn and Mankind didn't receive a 5-star rating, I remember a lot of people raving about this match as being something completely different than what the WWF was putting on at the time, i think it was one of the first hardcore-ish style matches the WWF tried. |
