I'm a really big fan of Stranger Things and I enjoyed the Leftovers. Coon was pretty amazing in the Leftovers along with Theroux and Ann Dowd. So two welcomed castings for me.

I'm glad this seems to be moving along quickly. Seems like we should be getting full cast announcements here within the next few weeks.

Was talking to my brother about this, I bet the family is the 'Spengler' family in some way, shape or form.
Nothing would make me happier than to think of Egon having gone on with his life after the last two movies. It'd help to fill the huge hole that is left behind with no Harold Ramis. It makes sense that after the business kind of fizzled that he might have just kept a bunch of the equipment in upstate NY...would make sense with one of the kids getting ahold of it and experimenting, etc. It also kind of adds that connection to the afterlife that's been unspoken over all the movies, really. Could totally see one of the kids wanting to get their 'grandpa' back and going to these lengths for it, despite in the end not being able to control it. Maybe that's why Ivan Reitman was 'in tears' by the end?
Let's see if I'm close! Can't wait for this, regardless.

Glad to hear the budget is set at $100m. This way they lean on practicality. I have tons of issues with the, now totally ignored, reboot, but I think one of the major issues was way overdoing the cgi. They didn't lean on the script hard enough. Reitman wrote Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air and he directed Juno. He gets how to be dry, and funny, and zero in on the human element of storytelling and I think that is what Aykroyd is hinting towards. There are no guarantees obviously, but all the news feels really good so far imo.
I have no doubt we'll see the core cast all back in some capacity, that likely feels way more meaningful this time around, but I'm still really curious how they're going to fill out the new main team. I'm kind of expecting a Stranger Things/Goonies kind of thing after reading that article.
