I was pretty sad it was ending, but I expected WWE to import the roster and all new rivalries would occur.

I had tuned out of WCW the October or so before. I used to watch it on TNT over here in Ireland on Friday nights...but they stopped showing it. Also it was like getting a poke in the eye weekly...Jesus it was rough out.
I had been following what was happening in WCW through the wrestling mags I used to buy then. They were all talk about McMahon buying WCW but I didn't know for sure until that episode of Raw where it all went down. I remember being really excited...
then the Invasion happened....and Vince and Steph blew the biggest $$$ angle in Pro wrestling history to satisfy their egos.....still absolutely INCREDIBLE to me.

Was it sad to see the WCW go or did it feel like a natural running of the course?
It still came as a big shock despite WCW's gradual decline in quality. It was just unfathomable in 2001 that this could happen.
Was it widely known at the time that this was coming?
I was 10 at the time but I remember one of my friends at school who read dirtsheets mentioning Bischoff would takeover.
Did any of you think it was a work or some type of invasion angle?
Didn't think it was a work, pretty surreal seeing Shane on Nitro though
Would you have continued watching had they not closed up shop?
Probably
