Former WCW announcer Chris Cruise via Facebook:
As I said she would, Asuka has failed miserably in the WWE. So overrated. No charisma. Nothing special about her in the ring. Fans who think they know pro wrestling always fall for the latest import from Japan. Nakamura is another example of this. Duds both of them.

I mean, he's technically not wrong. You cant really say their runs have been successful. Yes you can blame WWE for booking because that's the easiest cop out but Asuka has no connection to fans and she's really fit more for a major Indie fed/NXT where there is a more "marky" crowd.
Nakamura is a fantastic talent but he just simply doesnt "fit" in WWE. As amazing as Japanese talents are, they never blend well into major US wrestling. Even Muta & Chono were still a little "off" during their runs in WCW. The most "connected" Japanese wrestler has been Samoan.

And that's what has always scared me about the thought of Omega signing with wwe. New Japan and wwe really are apples and oranges. One values skill and one values entertainment. Hell, it says it right in their names!

Considering Asuka was brought in to be a player/coach ala Kassius Ohno and Roderick Strong i would say she has been very successful. She def overachieved. I think Nakamura has done well, carried NXT for a year, won the rumble, had a marquee mania match and been a top player on smackdown. I don’t think either is a failure. This is largely the role he had in New Japan as well.

Who the hell is Chris Cruise and why did you feel this was thread worthy?

Judging by how he is best recognized by a "former" title and not a "current" one, I can hold the opinion he was a dud at announcing and anything else he's done since.

I consider myself a pretty well versed wrestling fan, but I have absolutely zero clue who this guy is. I can't recall ever even hearing his name.

Yeah Asuka's first 914 days sucked ass. Why do people forget about that? Sure she had a bad 6 months after but she's certainly back on track.

Not saying it as a way to dismiss his opinion, I honestly have never heard of the guy. After I post this I'll look him up, but I'm assuming he is someone from their dying days in 2000-2001.

He comes off as having a personality & creativity to being, at least for a short period, a top star.

Chris Cruise now there's a name I haven't heard from in years. I remember him best for his run on WCW Prime with Dusty in the mid 90s.

He also co-hosted a WCW recap TV show with Terry Funk on Sundays. Funk always called him "Crispy Cruiser".
