Sheik and Volkoff were babyfaces at one point?? I know that's not the point of this thread and I know I hate it when people derail my threads, but I have to ask.
I'm sitting here trying to think of great pairings. I'm having trouble thinking of some because I'm curious if we're including matchups where both wrestlers or teams were highly supported by opposing sides of the audience or matches of the presentation of face vs face or heel vs heel.
A great one from the 70s was Harley Race vs SuperStar Billy Graham. Both men are considered the top heels of their respective sanctioning bodies and their matches were deeply polarizing. Granted Billy Graham is not Harley's equal as a technician but he held his own well enough for Harley to make it work.

Wasn’t Savage still technically heel when he started feuding with HTM prior to the Mega Powers forming?

Wasn’t Savage still technically heel when he started feuding with HTM prior to the Mega Powers forming? He was still heel when he won the belt in June 87 since he was in the backstage celebration but as soon as HTM proclaimed himself the ''greatest IC Champ'' that ticked off Savage so he turned right after it.
This is when they officially turned Savage...
IMO Savage was basically a face after WM III considering the pops he was getting but the official turn was when they put em with HTM.

When I was younger and in my early years of being a fan I was always super interested in these types of matchups. It doesn't feel the same to me nowadays when it happens. That said, I don't really have any off the top of my head that I remember lol. This has been a legendary contribution.

Some of the best matches I have seen were face vs face or heel vs heel:
Face: Hogan v Warrior Bret v Piper Bret v Bulldog Bret v Perfect Macho v Warrior Bret v 123 Kid Bret v Diesel - RR95 and Survivor Series 95 Shawn v Razor Hart Foundation v Rockers (multiple times) Hart Foundation v Legion of Doom Legion of Doom v Rockers Owen/Bret v Steiners
Heel: Jake vs Savage - SNME 1986 Bret v Shawn - Survivor Series 97 Model v Shawn - not a great technical wrestling match but a great gimmick match
Though I don't remember the match too much, I believe Koko and Tito Santana fought in early 1991 a few times and one of the matches was on one of there coliseum video tapes (if i remember correctly). At the Wrestling Classic in 1985, Ricky Steamboat and Davey Boy Smith wrestled each other in the first round, and Tito and Paul Orndorff wrestled each other in the second round (i believe this was after Orndorff turned baby face since this was after he and Piper had their match on SNME). IRS fought Berzerker then Jerry Sags at King of the Ring 1991.
