PPV/Supercard Talk #4: The Wrestling Classicen.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wrestling_ClassicAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 32) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: the tourney, hogan/piper, davey/steamboat, dynamite/savage3) What did you like most about this event?: tournament format4) What did hate most about this event?: lack of bigger stars. ending of davey/steamboat, wish it went to a pinfall5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: more top stars in the tourney, piper wins the belt just for a little bita) best match: davey/steamboatb) worst match: spot/funkc) fav match: savage/dynamite**Final Thoughts**: decent event, not that great. although i was really looking forward to watching it. i rented it later when vhs came out. i had only read highlights of it in mags and seen a few picks. looking at it now it kinda sucks, but back then those were the guys in wwf and it was cool to see them in a tourney. my BIGGEST complaint tho, instead of guys like spot, orton, putski, adonis, kirchner, why were guys like andre, studd, bundy, snuka, bret hart, neidhart, valentine, beefcake, hillbilly jim, ventura, missing link, animal steel, etc not in there? so, im re-doing the wrestling classic right here, right now. would love to see yours too: steamboat vs. tito hart vs. sheik davey boy vs. muraco (smith by dq) studd vs. jyd andre vs. valentine bundy vs. snuka orndorff vs. beefcake savage vs. dynamite steamboat vs. hart davey boy vs. studd (by dq for not releasing bear hug) bundy vs. andre (by countout studd interfered) savage vs. orndorff steamboat vs. davey boy savage vs. bundy (by dq) steamboat vs. savage winner: savage! notes: steamboat has 4 matches of the year with tito, hart, smith, savage. savage vs dynamite as well!

PPV/Supercard Talk #4: The Wrestling Classic
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best):3
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?:I'm a sucker for tournaments so definitely that
3) What did you like most about this event?:The tournament
4) What did hate most about this event?:Too many bad matches
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?:Piper beating Hogan for the belt
a) best match:Savage/Steamboat
b) worst match:Spot/JYD(Savage/Putski a close 2nd)
c) fav match:Hogan/Piper mainly for the build and their history together. This should've had a clean finish.
**Final Thoughts**: I'm a fan of tournaments but this was week. Still though not the worst I've ever seen. Gorilla and Jesse are on commentary so that helps big time!

1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 4 Not the best WWF event but they were still in the "infancy" portion of PPVs so it's forgivable how bad the show was. WrestleMania 2 was pretty similar to this one and I don't think it was until WrestleMania III that they really put everything together and made it work. Big Event really helped in laying ground work for a show like III.
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: So many different wrestlers. I liked shows like KOTR, Survivor Series or Royal Rumble especially shows with more lower cards guys like this one featured. You mentioned not having a lot of bigger names but what could they really do with them? Andre can't look weak but you can't have his opponents look weak if they were trying to do something with them. The non finishes or crazy finishes work with lower card guys but not always with guys you're looking to build. I wish KOTR had seen more tourney matches on the PPV like this one did.
3) What did you like most about this event?: Again, having lots of lower card guys and different gimmick guys. And also, getting to see some of the newer wrestlers on a bigger stage than the regular TV shows.
4) What did hate most about this event?: The backstage silliness. They could probably have made the matches a little longer or had a tag match or a six man match or something instead of having some random model (was she a regular WWF employee) and I'm sure in typical "hahaha gotcha!" Vince McMahon fashion she knew nothing ahead of time about Lord Alfred Hayes trying to come on to her. I see Wrestlevision on the Coliseum Video and I remember Vince mentioning it (well, "russle vision" IIRC) but did it ever go any farther than this one show and what was it supposed to be?
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: Nothing in particular. Again, this was one of the first PPVs) for WWF so they were just getting started, working things out. I would've liked to have seen entrances if they even exist on film outside of Coliseum Video chopping them off.
a) best match: Any Macho Man match. His first PPV and you could tell just how good he was and how far he would go based on his talents and based on the promotion knowing his talents. It get if he left WWF because they weren't doing anything with him but his entire 9 year run was so special.
b) worst match: Any match that lasted less than a minute, except for Dynamite. It really did no one any good especially not fan favorite Junkyard Dog. If anything, it helped pushed Macho Man as a bigger star and better athlete compared to Dog at the end.
c) fav match: Dynamite v. Nikolai. For as short as it was it really showcased just how good Dynamite was and how quick he could do something so spectacular.
**Final Thoughts**: [/quote] I think every wrestler but Spot and Ivan Putski had an LJN toy so definitely a great amount of talent on this show. I know Macho Man would win the IC title just a few months later but hopefully the commentators (most likely Jesse) would put Macho over even harder due to this event.

PPV/Supercard Talk #4: The Wrestling Classic
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 4
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: Never heard of this show until the early 90s when I rented it at a video store. From what I read about this years later, it sounds like the WWE itself wasn't excited about it, since it wasn't even hyped on their TV shows!
3) What did you like most about this event?: How it was a tournament, plus we got Hogan vs. Piper for the WWF Title as well!
4) What did hate most about this event?: The count out finish to end the tournament
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: A clean finish to end the show
a) best match: Savage vs. Kid, with Savage vs. Steamboat as a close 2nd
b) worst match: JYD vs. Moondog, Funk vs. Moondog, Kid vs. Volkoff, there are a few
c) fav match: Randy Savage vs. Dynamite Kid
**Final Thoughts**: Over all, I really enjoyed this show, and I still watch it every once in a while when I am craving wrestling from 1985. It was a much better show than Wrestlemania was, had more stars, better matches, and we still got a Hogan vs. Piper match - which should have happened at Wrestlemania for the WWF Title. The JYD got the rub as the winner, probably a way of Vince saying, "Sorry we didn't put the IC strap on ya at Mania, pal!" But it is worth watching, you will enjoy it, you will find yourself watching it again down the road when in a golden era wrestling fix on the WWE Network.

Ah yes the original KOTR PPV before there was a KOTR PPV.
1) What do you rate this event? (1-5, 5 being the best): 4
2) What were you looking forward to or most excited to see at this event?: Tournament
3) What did you like most about this event?: tournament format
4) What did hate most about this event?: No Hulk Hogan
5) What could/would have made this event better to/for you?: More bye's to make it go faster
I feel that this was there to get JYD over.
Did anyone notice the boos with JYD winning lol? I always thought he was the most over after Hulk for a short period if time.
