As a life long childs play fan, I'm skeptical but I hope any doubts I have are proven wrong. What do you guys think?

Do not like the idea that it’s now just AI gone wrong. It also bugs me that another studio decided to reboot it when the last Child’s Play/Chucky movie came out in 2017 and a tv show continuation is in production.

Nope.
I never found the idea of a possessed doll scary in the least.

I'd much rather them stick to the original voodoo/soul transferred into the doll aspect.

I mean, it looks like a standard robot uprising horror movie.
I had wondered what the hubbub was, because apparently Don Mancini and Jennifer Tilly both came out against this movie.
Looks like MGM/Orion/UA acquired the "Child's Play" trademarks and decided "Hey, I know another company is still making these movies, and is also doing a TV show, and wants to do a Chucky/NOES crossover, but let's make a reboot anyway...AND let's make it look like any random horror movie that came out in the 80's!"
I can see why the creators and stars are dragging this. Kind of a dick move.

Also obviously means no shot at getting Brad Dourif to do the voice of Chucky which is a huge blow.

I'd freaking love a Chucky/NMOES cross over, but unless Robert Englund reprised his role it wouldn't have anywhere near the same impact. I say that as someone who actually enjoyed JEH as Freddy in the remake too.

I feel like this will movie will reach a broader audience. General AI uprising stuff as people said before, maybe a little less about the history and more about Chucky representing that AI theme.

Nope. I never found the idea of a possessed doll scary in the least. We all hear the complaints about QC for toys. I'm sure an evil killer doll would take one swing of the knife and then his arm would either lock into a fixed position or fall off. Oooh so scary!

If it was McFarlane figure, all you would have to do is drop it 3 feet into a pillow and the damn thing would probably shatter.

The scariest stories about a toy now is thinking you see the box of a sought-after find halfway down the aisle only to discover its accessories gone.
Or hearing that something is a store exclusive.

I wonder if they're just going to do a robotic autotune type of voice or if they'll actually have an actor provide the vocals. I'd freaking love a Chucky/NMOES cross over, but unless Robert Englund reprised his role it wouldn't have anywhere near the same impact. I say that as someone who actually enjoyed JEH as Freddy in the remake too. The idea Mancini had for the crossover was pretty cool too. He said that since Chucky sleeps, there's no reason why he wouldn't fall under the same nightmare rules as everyone else. So Chucky and Freddy meet and find out they have a lot in common and wind up having a contest to see who can kill the most teenagers until they realize there's not enough room for the both of them. Sounds silly and fun. I'd have been all in. I feel like this will movie will reach a broader audience. General AI uprising stuff as people said before, maybe a little less about the history and more about Chucky representing that AI theme. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it made decent money. I think people that have issues with voodoo and possessed dolls and serial killers would have less qualms about seeing people getting killed by malfunctioning robots. Also Aubrey Plaza! Nope. I never found the idea of a possessed doll scary in the least. We all hear the complaints about QC for toys. I'm sure an evil killer doll would take one swing of the knife and then his arm would either lock into a fixed position or fall off. Oooh so scary! That would be hilarious.

Looks like a whole hell a lot of no way I won't see this. And the simple fact that Dourif isn't going be doing the voice makes it another hell no. Sure it's only a voice, but Dourif simply is Chucky. I like the "Chucky" films, even though the last couple weren't that great.

The original Child's Play is easily in my top five favorite Horror films of all time. It's one of the only films I've actively purchased screen used items from. I understand why Mancini would be upset at seeing Chucky in another movie but let's be honest, the reason the first film worked is because Holland rewrote the script (which was then polished by Lafia) and Holland directed it. Mancini's original script was a satire on toy marketing before he changed it to Blood Buddy, with the main character being named Buddy not Chucky. Holland rarely gets the credit he deserves for his input in the film.
Having said that MGM could have easily written another film about a killer doll and not call it Child's Play and it maybe would have been ok. The horror community is a very loyal group and I don't see them backing this film at all given that no one from the original is involved in any form and some of the people involved in the original have said that they are against it.

I really enjoyed the ‘IT’ remake but this doesn’t look too good...

I always thought the coolest element to Chucky was that he was CLR's soul. "We gave him the digital blueprint of a serial killer by accident!", doesn't seem quite as cool to me. Not on my priority list of stuff to see, but I'd watch it on Netflix 8 months from now. Usually what happens in a remake is the new crew change some major thematic narrative that worked incredibly well in the original, but it ruins the heart of the story in the remake. Putting the same ingredients in a pan doesn't mean you get the same finished product. You have to know how to mix those ingredients and most remakes don't maintain that kind of artistic integrity.

That seems to be all that you need to get a movie green-lighted by studios today. I used to dream as a kid about writing and producing my own movie. All I have to do is just write a Back To The Future reboot with no Doc Brown and switch Marty to a girl who falls riding her silver bike, hits her head and wakes up in the 1980's to become a pop star....only to find out it was all just a dream at the end.
