I'm curious, what was the plan, if any, for HBK in 1998 had he not got injured?

You would think a baby face turn was inevitable again. I could see Triple H taking over DX and HBK becoming the good guy to feud with Hunter for a while.
But Shawn wouldn't have been happy doing that. He would have wanted that main event spot still. Maybe HBK would have had matches with Austin at the next two PPV events much like Dude Love had?? That seems highly possible too.

Maybe he would’ve worked with The Rock at one point?

I love Shawn Michaels, consider him the best in ring performer of all time. However, as bad as this sounds, him getting hurt was the best thing that could have happened at this time to WWE. Shawn Michaels as the person he was back then would have not been helpful to the rise of people like The Rock and Mankind. While Austin was the main man, there was a lot more people to share the spotlight with in 98,99 and 00 and could you really see him being cool with that?
You have to wonder had he not got hurt how much of a fit he would have pitched about getting the title back of Austin and if Vince would have done it. I know people will say that Vince would not have taken the belt off Austin for anything, but HBK had got away with stuff that no one else in a million years would have all throughout his career.

Since DX was getting cheered against EVERYONE who wasn't Stone Cold Steve Austin? HBKs inevitable turn to feud with the Corporate team was on the cards. The NAO and Waltman were already pencilled in to join DX before they knew of HBKs departure( it was just delayed because of Tyson) so I dunno how it would all have worked out to be honest.....
I think HBKs cocky dickhead would have been RED HOT in 1998 as an anti authority figure. But somebody suffers.....most likely Rock, HHH or Foley. They were the 3 that benefited MOST from his departure....
Maybe UT turns heel quicker than September? Maybe the catalyst for HBK & DXs face turns is McMahon turning on HBK after he cant get the job done in a WM rematch? Maybe HHH turns on DX sooner to become part of team corporate? I could see HBK wanting to help tripper out with a feud to put him over.
all pie in the sky of course but yeah its an interesting one for sure

he was so pilled out that writing him off to a shoddy side role was inevitable. he was sent home repeatedly through 99 because of his pill issues.
dude was a cancer.

Maybe he would’ve worked with The Rock at one point? Inevitable. But, Shawn's creative issues might've jeopardized the quality of the match
