For fans of the bad guys of wrestling, this book is a very worthy addition to your collection. I thought it was going to be my speed just by the sheer fact that it had Dick the Bulldog Brower on the cover. If you ever wanted to read up on some of the biggest heels of all time, this book has got some definite top contenders. Though it's geared mainly toward the territory days of wrestling, it still has some big names of the modern era like Triple H, Kane, and Randy Orton, among others. The sections break down by "The Top Twenty", followed by "The Next Five," "The Pioneers," "The Madmen," "The Egotists," "The Monsters," "The Technicians," "The Connivers," "The Tough Guys," and "The Foreigners."
What I found the most gripping was the territory era for the heel. Kayfabe was almost uniform in every promotion, and the heels really earned venom from the crowds. In some promotions, they'd have to fight their way to the ring. People would riot and storm the ring to attack the villains of this time period when they played dirty to win. Heels were shot at, stabbed, beaten, even poisoned. I don't think you are going to find this kind of reaction today. Their cars were vandalized, one even had his private plane burned. Simply another time in wrestling history.
While it doesn't have every heel you can imagine, odds are some of your favorites made the list, and a lot of guys you have never even heard of made the list, too. There are guys in here that had their heydays from the 20s through the 70s, and footage may not even exist of a lot of 'em. Still, it's a fun peek behind the curtain of the business, and shines a spotlight on the guys that make your babyfaces look good.

sounds like an interesting read. one can only imagine being a heel during the peak of the kayfabe era.
here’s a great song that I think nails the mentality of a longtime baby face having enough and turning heel:
