1989: Another AWESOME year of Wrestling! All PPV's were excellent (4-wwf & 5-nwa ppvs). SNME & Clash's were kick ass too (6-SNME & 5-clash's). Forgot there were ELEVEN free Events on, PLUS the Friday night special WWF NBC main event! Another one of my fav years. Life was good, my jr/sr year in high school. Lots of good times to go along with GREAT wrestling. Give anything to go back and do it all over again. best: studd returning and winning rumble (he's my 3rd fav wrestler) the rumble - was awesome all the way thru mega-powers explode - what a fued zues & no holds barred - loved it! SIX GREAT sat nights main events (most ever in a year) mega-powers vs twin towers on NBC Main event rick rude got wwf ic belt brain busters - loved em (were in 4 of the SNME events too) wrestlemania - so many great matches summerslam & survivor series - both AWESOME powers of pain were hot hogan/beefer vs savage/zues cage match andre/twin towers team starrcade 89 iron man matches flair vs steamboat x3 (2 ppvs & 1 cotc) FIVE GREAT clash of champion events horseman vs gary hart international luger vs steamboat fued wargames 89 nwa tag teams: road warriors, midnight ex, steiners, doom, skyscrapers, varsity club, freebirds, samoans, fantastics, dynamic dudes etc worst: studd left abruptly, no studd/andre ppv match powers of pain didnt win belts at wm5 midnight ex not in starrcade 89 hercules became kind of a jobber (he was a fav of mine) hart foundation split up Attachment Deleted

Zeus was awful. The fact that they tried to parlay a character from a bad movie into an angle was a joke. Tiny Lister had no business being in a wrestling ring and they had the audacity to stick him with the Macho Man was beyond degrading.

1989 was the first time I saw wrestling. I believe it was the Main Event with the Mega Powers vs the Twin Towers (or it could have been the Superstars show following it and showing the footage of it).
Best: was definitely the Mega Powers exploding. Savage slapping Hogan. Warrior/Rude feud was excellent, I like that they gave Rude a run with the title. Warrior vs Rude match at Summer Slam 1989 was fantastic. Mr. Perfect really coming into his own during this year. Perfect/Bret Hart matches. Hulk Hogan vs Boss Man at SNME in a cage. Demolition was white hot this year. Brain Busters getting a run with the Tag Titles (to bad they quit the company). Brain Busters/Rockers feud and matches. Brain Busters vs Hart Foundation at Summer Slam. Dusty Rhodes debut. Roddy Piper return. Tito/Model feud which seemed to go on for years, I think they were still feuding in 1993. Didn't really care for the Royal Rumble, could have had more matches and after the Mega Powers were eliminated the Rumble kind-of died down, but Mania, Summer Slam, and Survivor Series were all great. The introduction of the Million $ Belt (still my all-time favorite belt). Start of the Jake/DiBiase feud. Roddy Piper/Rude feud and steel cage match at MSG. Heenan and Piper segments on PTW. Macho Man becomes Macho King (the best King in WWF history). Bret/Macho King moment at the Survivor Series. I liked the Zeus/Savage vs Beefcake/Hogan feud, though, I think they should have had Macho eat the pin at Summer Slam to keep Zeus unbeatable since they continued the feud with Hogan and Zeus to the end of the year. And I know this is going to sound odd, and maybe disqualify my opinion to some, but I liked the Garvin/Hammer feud.
Worst: Tony Schiavone calling Summer Slam 1989 (and not Gorilla & Jesse or even Vince & Jesse), some of his calls were just horrendous, listen to when Hogan slams Zeus and Liz hits Sherri with the purse - just terrible. Side note, he did do better calling the 1990 Royal Rumble PPV. Last full year of Jesse Ventura calling PPV's and SNME's. Brain Busters leaving the WWF after the Survivor Series, I really would have liked to see them have a good long feud with the Hart Foundation (which they could have done in 1990, also could have had some matches with LOD). Tully not being in the Survivor Series (but then again, I liked what Heenan did, so I'm torn on this one).
Didn't watch WCW at this time (didn't even know about its existence) so I cannot comment on much. I did however go back and watch the Steamboat/Flair matches and those were tremendous. Also, Sting continuing his rise to top star in the WCW during this year.

Best:
Royal Rumble 89 - Megapowers conflict Main Event II - Megapowers breakup Wrestlemania V - Megapowers explode SummerSlam 89 SNME (October) - Genius def. Hulk Hogan via Countout thanks to Mr. Perfect, Perfect destroys WWF Championship belt Hulk Hogan vs. Bossman feud (especially in a steel cage) Macho Man vs. Warrior feud (Champion vs. Champion) Macho Man vs. Bad News feud (Harlem street fight was hardcore) Dusty Rhodes returns to the WWF No Holds Barred - Only reason why it's here is because of the hype at the time
Worst:
No Holds Barred the Movie the Match December PPV - Although the match was just one match and it was decent, it was too quick
Milking No Holds Barred as much as possible throughout 89 Not letting Mr. Perfect vs. Hulk storyline to continue properly instead of rushing it and expecting results

Best:
1)Mega Powers feud....brilliance. 2)Demolition being the joint 2nd most over act behind Hogan all year. 3) SNME....juts knocked it outta the park all year. 4) RR,WM,SS & SSeries were fantastic. 5) Brutus Beefcake & The Harts really climbing up there in popularity 6) Rude as IC champ 7) Best Version of the Heeenan Family hands down and his most successful. Had the IC & Taggers at the same time. 8) BrainBusters were a revelation all year. Them beating and dropping the straps to Demolition are highlights. 9) SO MANY great feuds going on. 10) Dusty in WWF was great too.... 11) Tag team scene.....incredible.
worst:
1) Zeus......UGH. 2) Blanchard getting sacked before SS. Had big time effect on the big 4H return to WCW too. bah
negatives were small in fairness...
