I spent a portion of the afternoon dusting and rearranging my display cases and it inspired me to check on closed listings for some of the original Legends figures. HOLY LORD IN HEAVEN the market for these things has gone nuts. I knew that MOC versions would fetch big bucks, but many of them loose and some even without accessories are selling for $50-75 or more. Guys like Bundy, Martel, the Von Erichs, etc. that never got another figure are true investment opportunities for collectors, especially given WWE’s seeming reticence to sign new guys to Legends deals of late - I would be very surprised if any of these are remade. Anyhow, excuse my late night ramblings. TL;DR - I wish I had known what these guys would sell for back when they were on clearance everywhere.

I wish someone would do a documentary on people who have made life-changing profits from their "collecting" of modern figures. It can't be that many, if anyone at all. Or at least study why they do it.
You spend 25 bucks per figure, wait 10 years, and make...40 bucks profit on each one? That's a colossal waste of time and space. Even if you make something crazy like $10000, thats only 1000 per year. You could make that just by working overtime now and then, and save all that gas money and time looking for the figs.
Hell, you could just not buy those crapty energy drinks or overpriced coffees everyday and make that much, and be healthier to boot.
I think if those "collectors" would do the math instead of fantasizing about the fistfuls of cash they can potentially make, they'd focus their efforts elsewhere.

Some do go for good money, due to how long ago they were produced, they weren't widely available so not everybody had access to them initially. Add that to the how good the figures were and its no surprise Lots of toys sell for more money a decade after they go out of production I've said the same myself about wishing I'd known what some of the valuable toys would sell for, but if lots of people bought and hoarded them to sell later, there'd be more on the market and they'd have a much lower value

I became independently wealthy selling copies of Marvel's X-Force number one in the 90s. Then I blew it all on Beanie Babies and now I'm trying to cash in on "chase" Pop Vinyls. I smell a comeback, baby! SERIOUSLY, topic at hand: yeah, I really regret not buying one of the 250 Jimmy Snuka figures I saw when I was still suffering from Classic Superstars burnout at the beginning of the Mattel era. Don't even get me started on Von Erich and the Road Warriors!

GoldenHulkCan I interest you in a full set of World Cup POGS, available only as inserts in local newspaper vending machines for a limited time? Lmao, I remember running around the city with friends looking for those stupid things, thinking we'd trade them to other kids for Now n Laters and gold bullion.

I have the complete set. All MOC. I was wondering what it would be worth sold as a set

I have the complete set. All MOC. I was wondering what it would be worth sold as a set I used to see complete moc sets available on eBay for about $3,000-4,000 but that was a couple years ago. I don’t think anyone was buying it then but now maybe someone would pay close to $3k

I have the complete set. All MOC. I was wondering what it would be worth sold as a set Bundles/joblots almost always sell for less than you'd get selling them piecemeal.

When Legends were at closeout prices I did buy doubles to keep MOC both for my collection and to possibly sell someday. I just couldn't believe when some were like $10 or less at the Mattel website, Family Dollar, etc., and thought there would be a demand down the line. Worked out for me -- I've kept probably half of them (made a rule to keep all the WWF guys up to like 1993 MOC ... I do have all of them loose) and sold the rest (Von Erichs, Eddie, etc.) to fund other figure purchases.

I bought Akeem moc for $9.99 and sold later for 29.99 I bought Eddie moc for $16.50 and sold for $49.99 I bought mr perfect moc for $45 and sold for $90 L6 warrior moc for $75 I sold for $125
Total $150 profit over the course of about 4 years. So, that’s like $40 a year! Yay!! #imrichbitch

What he's saying is, you're not going to retire on the money you make from selling your figures. Even if you sold your collection for $25,000.00, that's nothing. Most people make more than that in a year. Nobody should collect as an investment. Put those dollars in a 401k. Collect for the love of it.

Amazon had Akeem for like $3-4 at one point. I bought a few for the boots. You could find all of them pretty much for less than $10 between Amazon, Biglots, Family Dollar, Kmart, etc.

If you buy an extra figure or two and flip it down the road for extra money, God Bless. I do that a lot to help offset the $ I spend monthly on my collecting needs.
