I’m at a good place with my collection, so now my flips are paying for my hobby. I see an opportunity, buy it, sell it, pay myself back and use the profit on the hobby.
Couple recent examples, bought a DM Bret Hart MOC for $50 on eBay, flipped it right back on eBay for $135. Bought Demo MOC for $60, flipped them for $175. With both those profits I was able to buy the 3 NXT figs I needed, ECW Punk and SES Punk.
Being a flipper can be financially rewarding and provide the freedom of the chains of working for someone else. I don’t think anyone has ever said you can make a living solely from flipping wrestling toys. But you absolutely can make a living from flipping a variety of items. It’s no different from day trading. High risk, high reward.
My next goal is to flip enough to make Bundy/Martel money. Still need them for my collection.

What a ridiculous post. What you're saying is, those people on ebay selling their legends figures, bought those figures and put them aside for a decade to make money on them? Tell me I misinterpreted your post? You dont actually believe thats whats happening? This place gets worse Just to add, there are plenty of businesses who are successful from selling collectibles, to suggest its somehow not a proper business or even a illegitimate way to make money is naiive at best I think you misinterpreted his post. What he's saying is, you're not going to retire on the money you make from selling your figures. Even if you sold your collection for $25,000.00, that's nothing. Most people make more than that in a year. Nobody should collect as an investment. Put those dollars in a 401k. Collect for the love of it. This should be how people collect.

Nope. The secondary market doesn’t exist in my world. The Legends figures have all been in my collection since the day they were released. So no I don’t know or care what they are going for, because I don’t need them and as a collector I am never selling them. The only value they have for me is the memories they trigger when I look at them on the shelves.

I have all the Legends in my personal collection, which I'm still keeping. When the Legends 2 packs went bust and TRU was giving them away with a 20.00 purchase, I wound up with 2 extra sets of the BushWhackers sold 1 set a few years ago for 100.00, still have 1 set left which I will sell. I bought an extra Kerry Von Erich at K-Mart on clearance many years ago for 3.00 I sold it for 123.00. I might still have some extra ones carded that I got on clearance that I might sell off. I've been selling most of my collection off on Ebay and pretty much am just going to keep the Mattel WWE line, and some other figures that I like.

The only legend I don’t have is Rick Martel and I just haven’t been able to bring myself to pay the premium price

As someone currently looking for a Hillbilly Jim and a polka dot Dusty Rhodes, I can confirm that the prices on these figures is a little tough to swallow.

I've been trying to backfill my 86-96 collection for some time now and the prices have definitely increased. I've been looking for Akeem and even Hillbilly Jim and just see those prices go up and up and can't justify it right now.

True, which is down scalable if thats a term, if not I invented it, to other, less valuable assets lol theres still an outlay for any investment someone might make, and of someone is investing small, chances are they dont have big money to invest in houses for example so they invest smaller scale

Just popping in to note that the only person Mattel has released that I don't have a figure of is Bundy, and he's stupid expensive now.

i seriously downsized and sold off nearly everything. getting to down a select group of figures and none of them were repaints. so i only had 1 attire per character. but man i had to rebuy legends road warriors, bam bam, and vader and a few others and it was painful. i'm hoping Mattel does a new mid or late 90s Pillman
ultimately i think Mattel sucks with releasing old school characters and needs to do more releases with the wrestlers they have access to. repaints, repaints with new heads. would be cool if ringside had more low key exclusives like no new tooling, just straight repaints of some of these figures. red tights orndorff, debut red lightning vader, purple flames bam bam, Legends Pillman repaint, etc etc

I spent a portion of the afternoon dusting and rearranging my display cases and it inspired me to check on closed listings for some of the original Legends figures. HOLY LORD IN HEAVEN the market for these things has gone nuts. I only bought a few Mattel HBKs when they got the license, but I wish that I would have held a few back when I decided to sell off my entire wrestling collection. Some of those early Elites are turning a nice profit.
