I think Undertaker might've had the most underrated heel run of all time between late 2001-mid 2002 as Big Evil. And, no one really knew how Ric Flair was going to perform prior to WrestleMania X8. I wanted to review this match because I thought there were great stories told in this match: Undertaker being the bully heel, Ric Flair avenging David & Arn Anderson from beatdowns, Ric trying to match The Undertaker in his early 50's, Ric still performing at a high level in his 50's, and Ric still taking ridiculous bumps at his age (the super-plex was great). I thought Ric vs Undertaker at WrestleMania X8 was a great brawl that proved Ric still had it and could be at the top of the card. The interference from Arn Anderson was a great moment in the match and 'Taker kicking out of the Spinebuster was huge! If you exclude the botched last ride at the ending, the match was nothing short of great. I don't think Undertaker vs Ric Flair at WrestleMania X8 gets talked about as much as it should- and it very well is one of the 5-10 most underrated WrestleMania matches of all time. It gets 4* (****) from me- what did you all think of the match itself?

I thought it made no sense at all. I really thought that if Hogan wasn't coming to the WWF then, that we would get The Rock vs. The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. We got that at No Way Out that year instead.

Do you think Rock/Undertaker would've been a better match?

Hmmmm..... that one is tough. Rock vs. Taker had more of a history and back story, and I actually never thought Flair was gonna wrestle in the WWE again after that Royal Rumble match with McMahon.
If no Hogan, then yes, I would have went with Rock vs. Taker. Taker needed someone big, so I guess Flair was the man for the job... literally!

If you take Rock/Hogan away from WrestleMania X8 it becomes one of the most forgettable events in the history of the show.
As a diehard New Generation & Attitude Era fan, I still hold plenty of nostalgia for 2002 WWE. In the back of my mind I always regard WrestleMania X8 as a fantastic show when in reality it is due to that one encounter. That match was so historic that it still casts a positive aura over an entire show that is honestly not very memorable.
On that note, one of the only other matches that really had a decent build and delivered at that event was Taker/Flair. Because of that, I have a hard time thinking about reshuffling the card.

I would agree that its and underrated match, also think it kind of gets forgotten about do to it happening at WM X8 which just happened to have one of the biggest matches of all time on it in Rock/Hogan.Also was a lackluster WM that was sandwiched between the two greatest Mania's ever in X7 & XIX.

I genuinely loved the Taker/Flair match in hindsight, but I wouldn't have had them fight at WrestleMania if I had the chance to rewrite the card. I probably would have put Taker/Flair on No Way Out and pushed for the Rock match to happen at WM. I thought Austin was wasted on Scott Hall and I never really understood Hogan's beef with Rock therefore I would've went with Austin/Hogan, as the 2 biggest faces of the company at different eras, and Taker/Rock, instead of them facing at No Way Out.
