Don't worry, knowing the WWE they will have Becky job at Mania. Remember what they did to Ryder when he got over on his own. They did everything they could do punish him because the WWE weren't the ones that "made" him.
I like Becky. I'm very happy that she was able to do this all on her own but of course once "creative" get a hold of something, it dies. You'd think with Bruce Pritchard being the main guy again that things would be different.

I don't think anyone is questioning her talent, Becky Lynch is a great personality and wrestler. I think we all agree that Creative will kill anyone's meteoric rise.
IF she's going over at WM, she's pinning Charlotte, not Rhonda.

She's great but it's not her fault the writing these days sucks. WWE knows only one way to book a top babyface, which is trying to copy the Daniel Bryan route. Which is what they're attempting to do with Becky ... and Kofi ... and instead of being creative and exciting it's bland and familiar.

If we're going to compare Becky to Austin then lets look back at WM 14. It was a pass the torch moment where Austin defeated Michaels in a historic match. They didn't shoehorn Rock or Taker into the match and make it a triple threat.
With Becky however they couldn't give her a blockbuster match with Rousey that everyone wanted to see. Adding Charlotte makes zero sense and it has killed something that should've been epic. In a perfect world we would've had Charlotte vs Asuka ll and that could've give us two women's Mania main events instead of clustering the Raw one.

There's no denying her popularity. Some of you mentioned it was her bleeding on TV that put her over. Imagine that. Funny what a little color will do for a talent when they allow it. And also what happens when you make a shirt that's a parody of an Austin tee with a Ric Flair catch phrase.
On the originality scale, her story has been done 100 times over. Wasn't Ronda Rousey just doing the bad ass, pugnacious, never-say-die fighter gimmick before Becky? AJ Styles too? I mean, the list goes on. Her kayfabe motives aren't all that charming and they don't make sense. So that's a big reason why nothing is resonating for me. "Don't apply logic to wrestling." Yet, the very best wrestling ever has loads of logic. Austin vs. Bret WM13? Illogical choices kill the believably factor. As Scott Steiner once said, "I gotta dumb myself down."
Maybe WWE should've had her pass out to Asuka, covered in blood? Then those SCSA comparisons might actually have some merit. Until then, she's not driving buyrates, ratings, revenue... anything similar to Austin, other than his blessing, his storylines and his shirt design. (What's next, will Becky drive out a Yerba Matte truck and hose down Charlotte and Ronda!? I kid.)
I'll stand by Flair vs. Rousey being the most marquee match in women's history as well. Both names are known outside of the WWE, which is the point. They have broad appeal that can net a wide ranging audience. It's still a business after all. Huge reason why Charlotte is still included in the main event this year. Like it or not, she's the face of women's wrestling.

Always liked Becky since I first saw her on Smackdown with the steampunk look. She's pretty good at what she does. I think her popularity lends to the fact that she has an honest appeal. And her angry face is definitely cute, ha.

Been saying this for weeks. This entire "The Man" angle is complete nonsense. There's nothing believable in what Lynch is saying and doing. And Charlotte definitely should be in the match - I don't know how many times it bears repeating, before it sinks in. Also, re: Lynch's promo last night, about "taking the women's division to the main event"... If the match does main event 'mania, it's certainly not because of Lynch, it's not because of Charlotte, sadly... It's because Rousey is in the match.

Nah Becky kayfabe wise has every reason to be bitter like Bret was, Constantly getting overlooked for the other Horsewomen, never getting a chance to have a decent length title reign until her heel turn. As far as Buyrates, no one is drawing. The Rock could come back and they still wouldn't draw. That's a booking problem, not a talent problem.

One thing I do know is that I really hate the whole crutch thing. I don't know who thought that was a great idea if she wasn't really injured at all. There was no need for it in order to get her over in some sort of underdog fashion. She already had the army of crowds fully behind her and a perfect path to Ronda without any of that. Her hobbling out there like an old lady when her music hits really just helps to drain all the air out of everything when she should be marching full force to the ring. I'm glad they are trying to ditch it now, but might be too little too late.

Also did Becky piss on your dog or something? Seems you have an unhealthy hate for her. Questioning her appeal is an unhealthy hate. Gotta love that.
No hate necessary, I just don't get the frenzy, which is why I asked. The character itself seems like a cheap knockoff of past stars/stories. Nothing personal against Rebecca. Chalk it all up to bad creative?
So far, most everyone is in agreeance that the storyline itself is terrible and her big *aha* moment was bleeding on TV (something you can credit to both Nia for the accident and Vince for allowing it on his TV, not Becky herself.)
She's not even the only one using the gimmick, either. Like Becky, Ronda Rousey also wears a leather jacket, wears a shirt underneath that nods to a legend, is a "bad ass undersized, underdog brawler", has a never-say-die attitude with everything to prove, has a signature arm bar, was at odds with The Authority and most of the locker room resents her because they don't think she can cut it. If you're reading a book, it comes off like they're the same person. Difference being, one is an actual fighter with a highlight reel, the other tweets, taps out and gets injured.
Is that the appeal? She can't win? She was just champion of Smackdown, so I don't know if that's the case. There's just not a whole lot drawing me in to her plight. I understand there's some people who love women's wrestling regardless of how bad it is. I am not one of those people.
Thankfully from this board, I see that I'm not alone, which reassuring.

At this point Kofi and Bryan should main event Mania. But of course WWE won't be able to resist "making history." They just love that.
