So, we all know there was only one Warrior now, but back in the 90's we all know the rumors.
My question is, I know a lot of people thought he was a fake when he came back in 92' and totally understand why.
But did anyone else as a kid, hear that he had died and been replaced even before this run? Like all they way back in 89' or 90'?
One of the kids at school said he drank some blue liquid and was poisoned by it. And he was replaced by the Texas Tornado. Until they were both on the same Survivor Series team in 1990 proving it wasn't the same guy playing both lol.
And did anyone else here at all fall for the Renegade being Warrior? I feel embarrassed to say it, but I wasn't exactly sure at first. Since other WWF guys had come in and they were forced to alter their names and gimmicks slightly because of WWF owning certain personas (eg: Big Bossman, Earthquake, Brutus Beefcake). So I thought it was possible it was him, plus TV resolution wasn't what it is now either.

didn't texas tornado actually play the role of ultimate warrior briefly on house shows? or was that just a story/rumor that eventually got debunked?

How did the Ultimate Warrior is different rumor make it to an 7/8 year old me, is my quandry as I sit here and at 34 years old.
I had no internet. I live in an extremely small rural area where I had one relative as my only wrestling friend. He was my age and in the same situation as I. At 7/8, I hadn't even bought my first wrestling magazine.
So it seems odd to me that I too had heard he died and was a different person. I weirdly never believed it though.
I'd heard the Kerry Von Erich was Ultimate Warrior stuff too. But by that point, I was seeing both on TV. So...
As far as the Renegade, during the hype, I thought it was Ultimate Warrior coming in. As soon as they showed him, I knew it was someone else.

There's a photo on google images of Warrior and Tornado from Warrior's 1992 run. Warrior obviously less muscular but a cool picture of two guys that wouldn't have much more time to get a photo together. I can see why someone might mistake them because of a more similar body size in 1992. And I'm guessing the photo of the two of them was something WWF did but never made it's way to the public so the rumor couldn't be debunked at the time.
I feel bad for Renegade Rick Wilson and he got too much way too soon and lost it almost as quickly. As a kid I actually liked Renegade. Warrior was in the past to me since he hadn't been around for several years.

Me and all my school friends thought there were two Warriors. I must have been in my late teens when I found out there was only one.

One of the other reasons they use to say was because he stopped doing the gorrilla press when he came back and pretty much always finished guys off with the splash after the shoulder tackle thing.

The Texas Tornado was known as the Modern Day Warrior or something like that. That may be the cause of confusion with him and the Ultimate Warrior.
Iโd never really thought about it until I heard it on a podcast recently, but the Survivor Series 90 team consisted of the Ultimate Warrior, Modern Day Warrior and the Road Warriors.

I was all about WWF during this time and Warrior was my guy. Even when he returned in 92 with the different hair and smaller physique I knew that was the Warrior and even now looking back I do not know how you could not. As far as Renegade goes even back then I never for one second thought that was the Warrior.

I remember being in school after WM8 and EVERYONE was saying it was a new Warrior(there was even fights over it...LOL)....even as a 12 year old I knew it wasn't. Don't ask me how but I totally knew it wasn't. Then when I got the next issue of PWI around June of that year I knew for sure it wasn't.
As for Renegade? Surely nobody bought that was actually Warrior? Never even crossed my mind as a kid I have to say...Always knew it was a just a stab at taking him off....

I heard the rumor too, my older brother told me the original warrior was eaten by sharks and the warrior at wm8 was a different guy

Funny how rumors like that could spread so far and wide, especially in those days before the internet.
And as far as the Renegade goes, thought his debut was pretty awesome at the time, especially for 8 year old me. I was aware he wasn't the Warrior, but I thought he was impressive nonetheless. Looking back, it's obvious he was a rip-off of Warrior, and even that much worse in the ring. But there's definitely some nostalgia there for me.
I've also often wondered just what if it was Warrior that Hogan brought in other than Renegade? How would that have impacted WCW at the time and in the long run?

I for one never believed these rumors. He may of looked different at WM VIII with his short hair and less mass but I could tell right away it was him.
As far as the Renegade, Just by looking at his face the first time you could clearly see it wasn't the real deal.

I think the Renegade character was probably done because of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff's egos. I'm sure Eric wanted the real Warrior but for whatever reason couldn't get him at the time. Warrior was probably doing his training school and figuring he didn't need a big promotion to succeed. And Hulk I'm sure would have liked Warrior but only as a second banana to himself, which the real Warrior would never do but Hogan and Bischoff could bring in an indy version who would gladly work behind Hogan yet could be passed to people as the Warrior. I know, he wasn't the real one but if people could believe there were two WWF Warriors who knows what they would think about Renegade.

That's an interesting question.....what happened if Warrior had shown up in WCW in 94 95 alongside Hogan & Savage. Where would this leave Sting? Even further down the card? No way Easy E doesn't take Warrior if he could get him....Hmmm.

I'm guessing Warrior would have been put in an upper card position but much like his 1996 WWF run or his 1998 WCW run, he wouldn't have lasted too long. Sting didn't see great feuds during 1995 anyway so he wouldn't have been too hurt. Maybe Warrior gets Bubba Rogers or Avalanche.

Eric said on his Podcast that they never reached out to Warrior prior to Uncensored 95.
I tend to believe him, but surprised they didn't. I just always assumed they made a play for him and it didn't work out. Kinda crappy to tease Warrior like they did just to get PPV buys, but they got my $20-25.
